Point made beautifully. Hopefully we can move away from talking about "Americans" as though we're all the same. I'm kind of bummed you took that tone anyway, Norse, I always liked the way your Orcs looked. Now I just have a negative impression of you.

Oh well, such is life.

I fail to see why having a different opinion of me personally should affect your views on my painting... sounds very narrow minded to me Pingu....

Europeans judgemental?? Not quite as much as our overseas cousins I fear... anyway, before this descends into a flame war or a political discusion, I'll move on...

At the Blood Bowl tournament I played 6 guys, 3 nice guys (1 German, 1 Brit and 1 American), 1 OK guy (Brit) and 2 A-holes (1 German, 1 Spaniard).... nationality does not necessarily affect a persons sportsmanship, but reading the posts here by Americans (yes, it's a big country, I know your not all inbred hicks) they all seem un-necessarily competitive and "yee-haw" compared to other gamers...

I take your point Pariah that, especially in Europe, violence often ensues from sporting events. Mostly, that violence has nothing to do with sport, but local rivalry, religious differences, racist issues and the like. The sport is an excuse for violent conduct, but rarely actual the reason for it...

It just strikes me that the goal of the land of the free and the home of the slaves pre-programmes Americans into huge nationalistic pride. Any opportunity is taken to wave the starry banner and sing a song about slaughtering the indigenous population. By contrast, I don't know the words to any national anthem and don't care to.

Pariah, I may be wrong, but you give me the impression you drive a Mustang called the General Lee and have a huge Harley Davidson belt buckle...

This one gets ugly... :(

Bottom line is:
I met both assholes and great gays/pals in every country I visited, so that is an issue of personality and not origin. Second, cliches are cliches, they are over the top and if you look around long enough they will even fit. We all know the "yee-haw" cliche about US (I do not get into Euro-ones, we all know them, too). But when a good chap of my is a yee-haw man I even would love it bc he's my buddy. So at the end it just breaks down to personal sympathy.

Please, scrap the issue and move on...

You mean they aren't all like John Goodman in the Big Lebowski??

OK, Nark is right, I've gone overboard on this one and apologise... every country is filled with assholes and good guys.... it's just a shame that access to PCs is not based on that...

back on track....

last night my opponent declared a blitz with his S3 catcher thinking she was his S4 catcher (same model).. I pointed the mistake out to him and told him he could take the blitz back and use it with his S4 catcher instead...

I won 3-1 and didn't need to lose any 'sportsmanship points' to help me... 8)

I think taking back moves and stuff is all fine, I also often forget about the "announcing what action your player is going to take rule", and then start moving a player and declare a Blitz during the move. So do my opponents; no problem (unless a Bonehead/Really Stupid guy are involved, but then I won't forget)

However, once the dice are rolled, it's "Alea iacta est", and the result stands. Would he have taken back the move if he found out after he rolled a succesful dodge? He knew there had to be a tackler somewhere...

I know a guy who does not care about that, but in a vital situation when you want to blitz his ball carrier etc. he beginns with "you haven't declared blitz, so you cannot blitz him". Very unsportsmanship! Once he stalled for 6 rounds one square before my EZ, blocked and fouled every turn. I was on the pitch with just 5 players due to Swealtering Heat. I have to play him on Mo in the cup finals. (My Goblins vs. his Dwarves, don't ask how I managed to get there)

No. I'd actually try to say something along the lines of "BTW That wight's the tackler" before he rolled the dice. He may say "I know" or "oh thanks, I'd forgotten". Either way it doesn't matter.

I'd much rather a game was decided by superior skill. I don't want to win because my opponent is forgetful during a critical point in the game.

However once he'd rolled the dice that's tough. And its good sportsmanship, on his part, to accept you've messed up and get on with the game.

I'm newbie myself, and I totally agree with you Penguin.

If he'd asked, no problemo. But since he didn't, tough luck. If he'd given a clue as to what he was going to do, it might've been nice to warn him that the tackler was there tho.

I myself wouldn't have made a problem of this, but alas, not everyone is me ;)

The way we play it, you only have to have declared the action once you've rolled dice. So if you start moving a player, pickup the ball and then try to pass you could only pass if you'd declared it before picking up the ball.

If someone starts an action that I think is going to be a pass/hand off/blitz I'll often say "Is that a blitz?" or something similar before they roll any dice, but once they've rolled dice tough.

Well I've done stuff like that before too, that's a simple mistake of having their own players mixed up. That's different than the example you were given, about you doing something that gives you an advantage (putting a tackle guy next to a dodger, or putting a guard guy in a good situation to use his ability) and then giving that advantage away.

I didn't do anything to "earn" the fact that he got his players confused.

Glad we've given up on the silly concept that some countries have bad sports and some have good sports :)

My opinion of your views does NOT affect my opinion of your painting, Norse! I still love your Orcs!!!
