Should the random event, magic item and dirty tricks cards be brought back?

Hell yes! Give me back some mayhem and fun!

Nah, I like the game better when it's all tactical with no randomness.

All I know is that some leagues played it the other way for whatever reason. They could blitz and pass, or blitz and foul, or whatever, with the same guy.

I was trying to explain what the guy was talking about, not start an argument. :)

Hell yes. I joined an established all-draft league in Gainesville, Florida in the early 90's using the 2nd edition rules (3rd had just come out) and they had the TURN ORDER WRONG! They played: Attacker move, defender move, attacker attack, defender attack rather than one player taking his entire turn at once. I played my first game and told them it was not the way the game was played but they had played so many seasons that way that it was impossible to change at that point; so I just quit. 7-8 hardcore BB players didn't even know the correct rules!

Cards added to the game!

Post by Snarlton Heston »

Without the cards, you know everything your opponent has. Add the cards to the mix and you add excitement and anxiety!

Correction -- even more anxiety!

I agree, nervousness, secretiveness, anxiety.

They could even put the destined to be ever-changing handicap table on cards instead of a table and I'd be happier.

Heh you would think that wouldnt you? One of the staff members at my local GW refuses to show me his Chaos Dwarf team roster in game, so I have to "guess" who has guard before I make my blocks, and cannot pick on his dirty players and ball carrier.
It certainly makes life a lot harder (and wasnt helped by me showing him my roster prior to the game)

Large hammer ... to the forehead ... idiots like this deserve the lobotomy that this will deliver.

Sorry ... I don't have time in my gaming fun time for morons.

That said ... I'll say again ... I love how our league still allows the cards in the game. Translated to LRB rules:

==============================================
If you freeboot a Wizard, you get a Magic Card

For every 2 Cheerleaders you have roll a D6. If you get only 1 six, you may draw a Grab Bag card. If you roll two or more sixes, you may draw a Random Event card.

For every 2 Assistant Coaches you have roll a D6. If you get only 1 six, you may draw a Pre-Match Preperations card. If you roll two or more sixes, you may draw a Dirty Trick card.
===============================================

It has allowed to keep a small amount of cards in the game for flavor and fun and has greatly increased the value of 3 support staff that very few people used in my league.

Galak

that is pretty neat galak, any way you could translate that a little to just encompass the standard mi, re, dt decks. we don't play with those extra decks (and don't really want to) but this seems like a way to bring them back about as much as I'd like to.

Sure Wes ... if you don't use the Pre-Match Prep or Grab Bag decks use these rules:

Code: Select all

If you freeboot a Wizard, you get a Magic Card

For every 2 Cheerleaders you have roll a D6. If you get a six on any single dice, you may draw a Random Event card.

For every 2 Assistant Coaches you have roll a D6. If you get a six on any single dice, you may draw a Dirty Trick card.
And just to be clear here with these rules, you only get one Random Event and/or one Dirty Trick no matter how many sixes you roll.

The MBBL2 has used a varient of these rules for the last one and 1/2 seasons (9 games - 10 months) and the coaches have really like them. In fact I tried to get rid of them at one point and put it up for a league vote and 80% of the league (55 coaches) voted to keep them. Guess the commish can be wrong on what his coaches want once in while ... :D However ever since that vote, I've strongly believed that this was the best way to add the cards back to the game AND increase the value of the coaching support staff that everyone always thinks should have more effect on the game than just the kickoff table.

Galak

Its the Southend store. The strange thing is that the guy who does this, is otherwise a really fun person to play against, but he argues that as it does not say in the rules you have to show them your team roster, he does not have to show me it.
I know he's wrong, but I can't really do much about it. Only have to play him once more in the league anyway (though my team in that league has been below 11 players after game 1 and not yet recovered)
