Who are you? The introductions thread

Post by lunchmoney »

Following on from discussions on other threads it was felt people should maybe talk about themselves more, so here is the "Introduce yourself" thread. :D

I'll start;

I'm Al, and became the owner of http://www.exilesleague.com after needing a better solution to our league’s forum needs.
During the day I do a job in an office, which is mostly dull, so spend my time reading stuff online. Except for when my office internet police block it, which includes photobucket, so I can never see those pictures people post.

Started playing Blood Bowl shortly after the first box set and played with the paper stands and Undead almost exclusively. Over the years I have played all editions and all races, but keep going back to Undead (and Goblins now when I fancy a silly match).

Aside from Blood Bowl, I also like classic cartoons (Wile E Coyote is my favourite character), RPG's (Cyberpunk2020, Ravenloft and Deadlands), board games (Risk [2210 , Legacy and Godstorm], BSG, Settlers and stuff like that, oh and monopoly: I've somehow acquired about 14 different sets :)), movies (favourites are Back to the Future and Ghostbusters), sci-fi (Babylon 5 tops my list and gets rewatched about once every 18 months), intoxicating beverages (black russian for choice), coffee (I've normally got about 6 different varieties in the cupboard), good food (I am an ex-chef), street racing (yes, the slightly illegal kind, I drive a Jap-imported, modified Impreza WRX STI), music (as an ex DJ my collection is very ecletic and is nearly filling a TB drive).... I'm sure there's more, but I think that gives the low down on me..... Oh and I have a very understanding girlfriend. We met at Warhammer World on a gaming weekend. We are both geeks and proud :)

PS I also once introduced Aber Uni's RPG society to the card game Lunchmoney. We had about 20-25 people playing one game at a time. The next time I went there a lot of people forgot my name and just called me Lunchmoney, so the name stuck

Biography

Image

I am a 34 year old Secondary (11-18 ) maths teacher from Swindon, England, married with 3 children. Before becoming a teacher I was a Financial Analyst, playing with spreadsheets for 3 years after graduating from Oxford University with a degree in Engineering, Economics and Management. I started playing Blood Bowl in 1989 or so with 2nd Edition, taking a ten-year break when I left school, then starting again around the time of my first NAF tournament in 2007. Since then I have used all 24 teams in 32 tournaments. As I was brought up in Scotland and have Scottish family, I represented Scotland in the 2008 Eurobowl in Spain. I used to play on MBBL and play on Fumbbl, in the OWCC and WIL. I am the commissioner and founder of the Cakebowl Blood Bowl league in Wiltshire, which has grown from 6 to 14 players in 6 seasons.

NAF Experience

Since taking over as NAF Media Officer in March 2013 I have been looking after the monthly newsletters, Facebook and Twitter, and with mepmuff was responsible for the new look of thenaf.net.
- With mepmuff doing the technical work, I produced 90% of the words that you can find on thenaf.net, trawling the internet for good links and producing original content. Since then I have produced more material and also encouraged others to write material.
- The Facebook page has doubled its number of Likes, and the Twitter feed has daily activity on it. I have been active in encouraging new tabletop players through forums and social media, including promoting the NAF by commissioning the interactive signatures, and most recently organised a Cyanide-based competition to get more online players moving to tabletop.

Who are you? The introductions thread

Post by voyagers_uk »

Ok well as I started this I might as well follow the sterling efforts of Mike and Mike and lunchmoney (who I shall now think of as mike)

I am Steve, 41 married 2 kids ( my wife says she has 3)

I work in corporate treasury and therefore deal in sums of money and faraway places whilst trying to mitigate the risks for all involved (my moderation style sometimes reflects my work life, sorry)

I found out about Bloodbowl between 2ed and 3rd but we decided locally to finish the WFRP campaign I was running, the villain was a talking fish called Gerald.

We bought 3ed my friends chose humans, orcs, dwarves and skaven and I took Dark Elves and never looked back. After that got boring I switched to undead for a few seasons but dark Elves are my sinister outlet, where every game is a chance for euthanasia.

I take whatever time I have left from work, my kids, my wife and this place and divide it between mentoring teenagers and following the Atlanta falcons.

I don't attend tournaments as family comes first and I never have enough free time. If there was one run locally I may go but possibly not as life often interferes.

I am trying to start a new TT league but my work is in jeopardy so my enthusiasm has wavered at the commitment

I passionately love this game and the people who play it are some of the funniest gamers I have ever come into contact with. My best mate I met via a contact on here and I am richer because of it.

I am not tech savvy enough to get a picture up but I think that is probably a blessing for you guys

Ok, here goes a noob..

Hi, I‘m Pete, 36, currently living in Exeter in the UK. I’m an IT project manager by trade, most recently working in the City, but haven’t worked for nearly 2 years since my wife had a massive stroke shortly after giving birth to our son. She’s recovering and he’s coming on 3, but it changed our lives(!). I am currently a stay-at-home dad and having been in the hobby wilderness for many many years, I returned to Blood Bowl as a little personal outlet from the pressures of caring and fathering.

I first started playing Blood Bowl in 2nd Edition and carried on with 3rd Edition and I used to spend most of my pocket money on the old blister packs as a kid. My favourite team was always the Chaos All-Stars but I tended to like the glory of the high scoring elf game. I also used to play a bit of Warhammer Fantasy, D&D and Space Marine, but as a fan of the NFL and the Miami Dolphins, Blood Bowl was always the game that I loved the most. Despite me telling him to get rid of them for 20 odd years, I found out that my dad had kept all of my old Blood Bowl stuff in the loft so I have been going through my old collection with the joy of a giddy child at Christmas.

I used to play at home with my brother (who will tell you that I used to make up the rules!) and friends but we did used to go and play in the GW store league when we were allowed on the trains by ourselves. As I got older I drifted away from all gaming and didn’t think about it until the last couple of years. I must have been away for nearly 20 years in total.

I’ve not played in any tournaments and really want to get the first one under my belt, but fitting in even a one-dayer is proving very difficult at the moment. It may have to wait for a couple of years. I have just started playing in the local gaming club’s league.

I love collecting miniatures and want to get one of every team covered in the splatter that I call painting. I’m just awaiting delivery of my first non-GW teams so am quite excited about that.

I’ve been blogging about my return to the hobby world at http://amanandhistoys.wordpress.com but I am mainly a gaming voyeur on forums and Twitter. I’ve started playing a little on Cyanide and FUMBBL, but again time is precious so playing games tends to go in cycles (I’m on a down-cycle at the moment).

Outside of Blood Bowl and life, I like to try and get out running or riding on the muddy hills of Devon, but in the dark evenings of winter tend to lock myself away outside in my hobby cave painting and listening to podcasts or the footy on the radio.

My turn...

I'm Jim, 35, married with a 5 year old lad.

By day I'm a t-shirt designer for 8ball.co.uk and by night I'm a frontman of a band (just starting out with a new one but have been singing with various bands since a teen).

I played 40K back in the glory days when I was 15 or so and became a fan of GW then. At Uni when looking for something less hardcore (and cheaper) than 40K to play with my mates I picked up 3rd ed and we played a couple of leagues, me using the plastic humans from the box with the standard additions of Morg, Zug and Griff.

The box then gathered dust until about 2 years ago when a few of my friends expressed an interest in having a few games. Since then I've collected Skaven, Dark Elf, Orc and Gobbo teams. Currently playing Skaven in a local 10 man league (got Maverick's Necros in the semi final next, wish me luck!).

Recently I've been getting into some more laid-back boardgames etc with a more casual group of gamer friends. Current faves are King of Tokyo, Jamaica and above all else Bang: The Dice Game.

I'm Abi, twenty three and from Bristol.
Currently unemployed, I read a lot of comics and watch a lot of cartoons and Super Sentai.
Started playing Blood Bowl LRB6 about five years ago when I was introduced to it by Nazgob, I've played quite a few team, all poorly. I used to go to a lot of tourneys but money has gotten in the way and since I don't have that lad-ish, footy and beer attitude I don't tend to fit in or get the most out of them.
I've dabbled with other tabletop games, the one I have played most being Warmachine/Hordes but the cost to fun ratio kept me from continuing.
There used to be a cool shop, in my old home town Yeovil, called Witchengine that I would hang out and play in but it's gone now and the major Bristol store has a cost per game that I can't justify so my wargaming has dropped greatly in the past year.
I suffer from depression that has made things quite difficult and I have shamefully dropped out of a lot of leagues and contests, so I just don't try anymore and as such I haven't actually played Blood Bowl since around August of last year. :-?
But I did travel to the states a few years back for the Chaos Cup, which I highly recommend, great event, great people. Strong grapple taunt!
I'm currently waiting for the release of the Greebo Dark Elf team and some cash to flow my way before I try to dive back in.

Popcorn down.

This first part seems like an intro at an AA meeting.

My name is Kenneth and I'm a Blood Bowl addict......doesn't have the same ring to it.

I actually go by 'Ken.' I'm 35 years old, I'm married (10 years), and have a daughter (soon to be 8 ). I live near and work in Nashville, Tennessee. I am a Architect by trade and am registered as such in the State of Tennessee (probably should be working now instead of typing this  ). I attended the University of Tennessee from 1996-2001 and thereby would really like to see Peyton win his second Super Bowl this weekend. I came to Tennessee from a small town near Buffalo, New York where I grew up and my family all still lives. We raised grapes, of all things, so the first 16 years of my life were spent out in a vineyard.

I learned about Blood Bowl back in the 90's when I was discovering WHFB and WH40k. I had a neighbor I hung around with that had a couple older brothers with a bunch of the original Space Marines and other various games that were not "normal" and extremely fascinating. I heard about BB for the first time then but heading off to college was not conducive to learning to play, particularly when nobody else knew what in the hell it was. I finally decided to look it up and start playing 10 years later (around 2007). I quickly discovered that the Blood Bowl scene in Middle Tennessee is dead. I joined FUMBBL in 2008 and have played most of my matches there in the NBFL and the NWFL (which I personally founded...shameless plug  )

My favorite race to this point is Undead. I also like Orcs as a close 2nd. I admittedly am still working my way through playing all the races. I had fun with Khemri for a while but found them extremely unreliable. I'm terrible with Norse and am currently getting ready to try Wood Elves for the first time as I hear they're the best.

I have shamefully never attended a NAF tournament. However, I am planning on attending the Chaos Cup in Chicago this year and am currently finishing up the paint job on an Orc team (the Kannibal City Cheefz) to bring to that.

I also enjoy travel, the outdoors (camping & hiking), carpentry, and I play in softball and pool leagues.

Here's a picture of my ugly mug:

Live in a magic forest with my six brothers and a very pretty brunette with family issues who can charm the birds out of the trees. My brothers beat me mercilessly and would constantly sing and make a racket, hence I hate dwarves.

Cannot keep this up

Bob I am 50 and separated, my bad. I have two adult sons, and an ex wife who I can now talk to.
Work as a Probation Officer and have for a LOOONG time.
Took up Bloodbowl about five or six years ago as I needed something fun and frivolous to do as my life went to hell. Little did I know. Bloodbowl was chosen cos a mate played it (3rd ed I think) Have only ever played under the current ruleset.
Started as a poor player and have worked my way up to being a capable one, though one that the people who can really play regularly trounce, this is down to the ECBBL who are all scarily good and good people. Working my way through the 23 teams. Played Cyanide and found most people on there were whiners who could not play. Have played some FUMBBL but seem to be so far behind the curve there that I rarely win at all. Started going to tournaments really in the last couple of years when the GF dumped me (CF the first line).

Outside this I vounteer as a guide at the British Museum and regularly bore my work colleagues with stupid historical facts.

no picture because I avoid them.

Might as well add my tuppence,

Hi, I'm Maverick or Mav,

Real Name Richard but everyone even the wife calls me Mav, Married no kids, Started out in the off license trade before moving into Wine Buying with Laithwaites, Gave it all up about 7 - 8 years ago now when cost was the greater factor in purchasing than taste ( it wasn't always the case). Now I'm an IT QA team leader, testing software, well having spent most of my adolescent years beta testing almost all the Mmorpgs it seemed a sensible thing to do as a career :D

Mainly used to post on here in the werewolf games or rules discussions, Favourite team has to be the Necros, currently in the semi final playoff vs Jims Dirty Rats in our local league.

Got into Blood bowl when I was still a youngster, playing at the local GW store or around mates houses, then left to Uni and only really picked it up again 6 years ago been to a few tournies and met some great people, although I tend to hide well in the back ground :D

Slowly managing to paint the large pile of metal and plastic that the wife keeps threatening to chuck out, if you see me at a tourney look out for the pink miniature on my team....theres one on each team (even a pink snotling)... easiest way to placate her :D

My names Dave, I’m 36 and although Scottish I live in the south-west of England in Bristol. I have two little boys; the oldest is 2 years old, the younger 4 months. When not dreaming about Blood Bowl I am an Environmental Consultant specialising in Hydrology.

I was first introduced to Blood Bowl at school but never really got into it playing a lot more of 40K, Advanced Heroquest, Axis and Allies and Diplomacy.

I stopped playing most board games when I went to Glasgow Uni swapping them for playing American Football and drinking, not necessarily in that order. Occasional popping into GW and reminiscing about the old days. When I went to Birmingham Uni to do my PhD I fell over the NAF website and started getting back into Blood Bowl. After a few ill-fated games with housemates I start going along to a local club in Birmingham. Before I really got up to speed I had to finish off my PhD and it wasn’t until I got to Bristol that I really started to get back playing. I started to attend NAF tournaments at the end of 2010 having lurked on the NAF site for about 8 years.

At the moment I am working my way through playing with the 24, I have played 16 of the 24 including all 5 flavours of Stunty. Last year I managed to complete playing against all 24 races in NAF tournaments with a game against Nurgle at the ARBBL Pick’n’Mix in November. I think my first love would be Lizards but I am looking forward to trying few teams again once I’ve completed the 24.

In order to hopefully give back to the BB community some of the great times I have shared at other peoples tournaments I am breaking new ground for me by hosting a one day tournament this April… BUBBA Bowl thread

My big goal for this year is to play for Scotland at the Eurobowl in November, or at the very least play at the Eurobowl.
Stunty_Shield_SWTC.JPG
Me receiving the Stunty Shield for last years 'South-West Tournaments Championship' at the Welsh Open last weekend; my biggest success to date. I'm the idiot looking one grinning on the right!

I seem to remember this being done before, albeit less in depth.

'Hi, my name is Joe Hudgens"

"Hi, Joe"

"I'm an alcohbloodbowlaholic." :smoking:

I just turned 36 last December, and live in Kansas City, Missouri, U.S. of A., with my wife Laura, our 6 month old (on Friday) daughters Vivian Rose and Eva Marie, two (2) cats Laura brought into this marriage and, until Sunday (I'm still gutted  ), my 8 year old English Bulldog Sarge (which is another tale). We live in an old tudor home built in 1925, which is mostly original and are in the painfully slow process of beginning to remodel.

I've been a duly licensed and practicing attorney at law for 10 years. I'm licensed in the State of Missouri and the State of Indiana, as well as in the United States District Court for the Districts of Kansas and Western District of Missouri. I have been a public defender (criminal defense attorney appointed to represent indigent individuals charged with criminal offenses), a prosecuting attorney, private counsel for a mid-size law firm, and corporate counsel for a few mid-level corporations. I'm a trained litigator, and have conducted 15 jury trials that I've tried as lead counsel, mostly without co-counsel help, and hundreds of court tried cases. My expertise is in criminal defense and I do some work in the copyright, trademark and trade dress areas. Last August I started my own law firm with a former boss and we have offices here in Kansas City, St. Louis and Chicago. I have a juris doctor, and bachelor's degree in Philosophy and U.S. History. My wife Laura is a staff cardiologist here in town and she specializes in heart failure and adult congenital cardiology. She's board certified in echocardiography, internal medicine, pediatrics and cardiology. Needless to say, I've married way over my head, and I'm over the moon in love with her, we've been married for 5 years this coming August. She's much hotter than a geek like me could ever dream. Because of the twins arrival, I've taken a sabbatical from active, every day law practice. I maintain a home office, and have my staff remote at the St. Louis office. I've limited my practice to post-conviction relief, traffic, one corporate client, and representing a small selection of my wife's colleagues. I stay at home with my girls 3 days of the week, leaving 2 to my own whims and work, if I have business to do. I've got a sister in Cardiff, Wales, and she lives with her partner. Another sister in Dayton, Ohio, and she lives with her mooching boyfriend.

I fell in love with BB when I saw the 2nd edition box set at my local comic book store when I was about 12. I didn't have money for it. By the time I did, the store had closed and there wasn't any internet stores that I knew about at that time. So I never got to get into it in the 2nd edition. My first year of law school 13 years ago, I decided that I would pick one hobby that I could do to take a break from the studies, and low and behold, I got a 3rd Edition BB direct from GW ( ) with some teams (the Old Norse, High Elves, Orc). Painted them up badly and taught myself the game solitaire. Discovered TBB in 2001 or 2002, and met a lot of folks who've become great friends. Have had the pleasure of meeting many of them in person and am richer for it.
I've improved my painting immensely (although I don't have any time for that much anymore). I never have played in a proper TT league, always just Pbem in the Old MBBL2, and now, thanks to Norse, I've started dabbling with the Cyanide game. I'm an average to above average coach, I'd say. I'm currently collecting the best painted teams I can get or get commissioned that are NFL team themed. I'll stop at 32. 8) I have 24 finished, 2 under commission at this moment, and 6 to go. After that, I'll get a modeled pitch and stadium made. From there, who knows?

Fantasy gaming is really not my main focus, although BB is my favorite game. I'm mostly a 15mm historical gamer, with complete American War of Indepence armies (play British Grenadier), WW2 (Picquet and Command Decision), plus some ancients that I havent' completed and Napolenic Peninsular that I'm working on (back burner).

And now I've droned on enough, so here's a pic of me at home at Christmas in my Christmas Hawaiian shirt and stocking cap...I'll save your retinas from being blinded by my dome.

Nice to meet you all folks!

My name is Jon, I'm 35 from Nottingham, UK. I'm a Sustainability Advisor for a large construction firm, although I only spend about 1/3 of my time out on muddy construction sites! I'm married with 3 children; girls are 7 and 5, boy is 3.

I first played Blood Bowl in around 1989 or 1990, but only did one league before 40k took over for many years. I rediscovered Blood Bowl around 5-6 years ago and it is now the only tabletop game I still regularly play (by regularly I mean around 10 games per year!) - the NAFC will account for 6 of those. I am running the TFF Legacy Team again this year for the 3rd consecutive year (feel free to pledge a model). Last year I started a slow-burning range of fantasy football models called Beast Face Miniatures :)

I have other gaming-related interests outside of Blood Bowl and collect a range of older Citadel stuff, most recently the Eternal Champion range they released in 1987, based on Michael Moorcock's books. I also regularly post on the Oldhammer forums and run a blog covering most of the hobby stuff I do; primarily collecting and modelling.

I guess I collect more figures than I convert, convert more than I paint, and paint more models than I play games ;)

Oh, and here's a pic (handily posted on the Oldhammer forums yesterday), imitating a classic Jervis Johnson look:
