Some ivy and moss, a little sand in the corners, maybe a little lizard or scorpion here and there. I was thinking of adding some detail indeed, to break up the dullness a bit.

As for drybrushing, that might work. :D I´ll give it a try wen I get home from work today.

I'd say that with textured surfaces like these, to not drybrush them would be a crime.

When I got home I tried something different.
I inverted the colors I used on my previous test.

Here´s the (still wet) result

Image

This looks pretty much what I was aiming for in the first place.
The walls will receive some added coats of wood enamel to make them a few shades darker then this, but for a test I think this is where I want my project to go to.

The floors will also become somewhat darker, but I first need to pick up a different shade of enamel to darken the grey paint properly. Add lichen, moss, toadstools and some debris and the dungeon feel starts coming along nicely. (I think)

With materials testing out of the way and a clear(er) plan in mind I can now start beefing up the dungeon tiles. They will all be weighed with a 5mm thick layer of wood glued underneath. The wood enamel can be used there as well.

Oh, and before I forget, I still need to carve out brick walls for 7 of the 8 dungeon tiles. I know what will keep me busy this weekend

I also ordered pillars and chests.

I ended up ordering these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200825924431? ... 1423.l2649

The guy also has doors. I might end up ordering one to see how they fit. Still need doors for my dungeon as well.

Those look like really nice chests, good find. If I had found these before I made my own, I would have gotten them. Still might, I suppose... I'm also currently looking into doors.

+1.
The walls texture remind me of stonework, and the floor lighter brown tones could perfectly be some kind of ceramics.
But I'm sure it will look great either way.

I´ll find out whether or not I made the right choice soon enough. I just painted one complete floor tile in the darker shade and all the walls going with it in the brighter shade.

I didn´t really like the loss of detail in the walls using the darker color on them. The floor tiles on the other hand look pretty sweet in dark.

Here´s some pictures:

this is as dark as the walls will be when done

That's plenty of floor and walls to paint! :D
At least it should be fairly fast paced to do most of the painting.

Edit: Just out of curiosity, under the styro you've glued a sheet of cardboard or MDF (how many mm)? Thanks.

@Axtklinge, 3mm MDF
It weighs down the tiles to a pleasant weight which prevents the tiles from accidentally moving during a game.
It also prevents damage to the edges of the game tiles.

Here´s progress:

I included some models for scale reference

in the background you see one of the dungeon tiles in the original colors but upscaled to the same 30x30mm grid the 3rd edition bloodbowl pitch uses

Image

I came quite close in matching the colors I think

Now the tile needs detail. Lots of it. Unfortunately I did not give detail a lot of thought. None to be honest.

I guess a few blood splotches on the floor and against the one or other wall, fungi, toadstools, sand and debris and of course moss and ivy are obvious candidates.

I also thought about hiding the occasional goblin in a wall segment. Unfortunately I have no goblin heads I could use to fill a hole with. More thought needed

Now that looks really really nice.

I like the goblin head idea too. Should give it a bit of a Brian Froud Labyrinth kind of feel. ;)

Gladly take you up on that offer @Velvet Mark :D

I also found a box of skulls that can go into some corners. Maybe I´ll sculpt a baseball helmet around the one or other head.

@Axtklinge, a table full of these will not only look good, it´ll look full as well.
With 1m20 x 72cm this isn´t really a small board, but I sure hope I can make this look as good as the potential this project would have in the hands of a more experienced modeller then me.

Anyways, not much progress today. First snow of the season, and the first snow my dog ever saw in her life.
