Is it a good idea to change fouling to:
player only gets caught on a 6
This way fouling is re-introduced to the game as a viable tactic, with the added bonus that the casualty rate from fouling with a dp is reduced.

I don't think that will happen as there are no spp's awarded and people can make fouling a bit more viable a tactic (if you want that annoying player who keeps falling in the path of your drive to not stand up the next turn).

I'm afraid that thats exactly what will happen, Teams will end up with a pair of dirty players and before half time one team will be decimated, and the other will probably walk in a 4-0 victory. SPP's not being available is no deterent, if at half time i can have 9 men left on the pitch gainst my opponents 5 i'll take it every time, and i daresy so will everybody, and we'll just get back to the third edition foul every turn syndromegrotemuis wrote:I don't think that will happen as there are no spp's awarded and people can make fouling a bit more viable a tactic (if you want that annoying player who keeps falling in the path of your drive to not stand up the next turn).

How about if the punishment for fouling was a bit more severe? Something along the lines of if the player is caught and sent off the field fans of the fouled player meet up with him/her outside and discuss the finer points of ethics with blunt objects? I.e. if player fouls and is caught the player is ejected from the game and roll injury w/ a +2 mod. Dunno if it's been brought up before and my apologies if so.
And if you really want to be nasty you could have it so that if a player rolls to foul but fails to break through the armor then have the player roll for injury on themselves, treat it like the old thrown rock roll on the kickoff. A fan is so incensed at the lack of blood from the attempt that he takes matters into his own hands by chucking a rock at the player who failed to deliver.

IGMEOY as it stands is very good. I personally do not have a problem with fouling. However, Zombie and others (who are against SPPs) has stated in several places that the fouling is still very powerful. My own experience is that most of my fouls only succeed in stunning or KOs.
So get rid of the current Dirty Player. I'm not sure who should get the credit (is original poster of idea) but change it to only get sent on 6 even if IGMEOY in action. This is because the player is experienced at putting the boot in under even the refs watchful gaze. Also, he could act as a guard for purposes of assisting fouls only.
The skill remains decent, without being a deadly (problem causing?) part of the game. It also encourages the player to foul more, but with less chance of success (ie no +2 on rolls). This would make fouling not overpowered, but rather move it to the area of being fluff based, Evil Gits team anyone? They get DPers and foul alot, without DP +2 to cause huge carnage but rather to play dirty as per the fluff.
I introduced this only as this was how I had originally interpretted the meaning of this thread. Dpers could be changed from 'hunter-killers' to players who just have a penchant for putting the boot in, and damn the consequences. With reduced success (no +2) and the no SPPs, they would not advance as they used to and would instead become a niche player.
