An other option is to make open the inscription.

Each captain can inscribe a team (and pay the interely cost) and form his team with only people of his nation.

So we can have San Marino 1, San Marino 2 ecc...

Obviusly this option need a cup to 4 or 5 team for nation and the use of freeboter only for one of the national team (San Marino 1 with 8/6 player of SM and SM2 with 7/5 player of SM plus 1 freeboter).

So you can have a national team tournament open (as possible) and may avoid the problem of 25 english team.

Just my 2 cents

However ... I would like to agree that I'd really like to see some system where anyone who can make it can make it and based on where they are from they get allocated to that larger group and then somehow having the individual play count towards creating the team.
I agree that I'd like to see some sort of selection process for the World Cup, as this is a special "every 4 year" tournament, but for the Eurobowl, I think the current system we have for Team England is fine, and shouldn't be changed (and I'm not saying that as a TE player, as using the current system I automatically DQ myself). Maybe it is "cliquey", but these were and are the guys that are willing to put their hands in their pockets and travel across Europe to play BB, so should have first dibs.

28 for France but during 2 years, we had 2 teams, better to have more players...

But please, think that each Captain have difficult choice to do! there s no easy answer to pick up somebody and not another one sometimes.
And i hope that you re all proud of your Team even if you re not in!

14 for Italy.

With only 2, Farina and Beppe, playing all 4 EBs (all matches)

I agree fully with this as well. Just don't believe the World Cup should use this same system. It works great for what the Eurobowl is ... I don't think it works great for the concept of the World Cup ... especially if they are running ads in White Dwarf. You will have folks signing up that have no clue about ANY of this discussion and they should be able to play.

One thing I would support though is 100% NAF membership at the event ... I don't mind if the NAF is running the World Cup if they only let in the folks that are active members. Don't know if this is a doable thing ... but it would make sense.

Agree with you but i don't feel the england team is cliquey as if going by the self inflicted rules which states that you must have travelled to a foreign tourny to qualify, that cuts the field down to about 20 coaches and if you are doing a lot of tournies you will know alot of the regulars. I am good mates with most of the england team but it does not mean i will be playing for my country as i am crap.

Would having 50 coaches representing one country but only 6 representing the other and creating an average be slightly in favour of the 50?

I suppose an olympic style format might work with team events, open event, Dungeonbowl, beach/street/7s bowl going on. But i guess you would have to bump up the ctagories with stuff like speed painting etc which would probably not work.

Is that a GW rule for their tournaments, or just a rule that GW has for Warhammer World?

That depends very much on how good they are. 6 very good coaches will most likely average out better than 12 very good coaches and 38 p*ss poor ones. Isn't that the argument for why Orcs have such a poor overall race ranking (that they're being dragged down by the weight of newbs)?

But IMO there is a better way than a system involving averages. Basically hold an open individual event. Award points for each person's overall rank (1st place gets the most points, last place the fewest) and obtain a country's score by totalling the points for the highest ranked 6 or 8 (or however many) coaches from that country. Ties are broken by whichever country has the highest ranked individual coach.

That is precisely a very usefull qualification point as it is a complete different thing to play against someone who isn't from your cultural surrounding. But ok, as a qualifier it is to narrow, but I think that most of a team should consist of travel willing people. Even if the tourney is in your own Country.

Galak
Let's get a few things cleared up:

1) there is no 'concept' yet for the World Cup - what you mean Galak refers to your concept of a World Cup;
2) the NAF did NOT run an ad in the White Dward - the ad was put together and published by GW without anyone at the NAF's knowledge. The ad has caused, a little prematurely to my mind, some of this picture to be as yet unsettled;
3) the tournament will be open as always, though it may be possible to include all players as members so that all matches will receive rankings, unless a coach specifically requests to not put their rankings up during the tournament.

Lots of conjecture at this point - one interesting I idea is to allow a second nation team formed from a first day play-in, which would also allow for seeding for the established teams to take place during team play. So at most there would be two teams but the first day's rounds would give everyone a chance to join the national team if they chose to do so...

So everyone plays three games - the national teams are ranked through the team's scores (like golf teams in the colleges in the US, for instance). Then a second national team is formed from the individual players who have competed and want to join.

Moving over to the NAF site, so please continue the thoughts and these discussions there... thanks to all!

very bad one .. a country with more players will have more chances to have more players in the high rankings .. thus england will win no matter what.
