Basic Rules Question

Post by Devil's Advocate »

Most skill descriptions state that the skill can be used only one per turn. And that got me thinking...

Can I take a skill twice in order to use it twice?

That is, can a player with 16+ SPP take Leap (for example) twice so s/he can use the Leap skill twice in one turn?

Now on the face of it, this looks beardy and wrong, but I couldn't find anywhere in the LRB where it says I can't do this. Did I overlook something?[/b]

You're right it does look beardy and wrong.

But it never specifically says otherwise in the LRB, most people will of course say that its obvious that you can't.
I will say that in most circumstances taking a skill twice is just a waste of a second skill. :o
Nice catch though.

Pretty sure this is a no-no. JKL or Chet can lay the law down. but with the limited number of skill rolls available why waste one to do something twice in one turn.

JKL/Chet answered this one once before.

You may not take a skill twice ... and yes the LRB should probably specifically state that. The days of leveled skills vanished with 2nd edition.

Deathwing, that plan wouldn't have worked anyway as you can only use 1 skill to modify any armour or injury roll. Even taking Dirty Player multiple times is taking it as multiple copies of the samne skill.

Furelli.

Did that actually make sense anywhere other than in my mind?

I would have loved a dirtier dirty player as well. Or a player with Mightier blow. How about really sharp claws for a +4 on the armour roll.
Jumper up: You may jump up and get 3 extra movement.
Blocker: Even if you roll skulls, you'll not go down.
Eagle throw: All your throws succeed on a 2+
etc etc.....

Sounds like Bloodbowl for super heroes.....

A player may only use the leap skill once per
action.

... so why get it twice?!?! :)

I miss the leveled skills. I still don't see anything wrong with it. I mean if you wanted to use 3 skill rolls to make your mighty blow +3 then why not?

Ah the difficulties of telling sarcasm from seriousness, stupidity or silliness in type. Probably explains why all my penpals stopped writing - it was either that or the picture I sent of me in the special jacket.

It's been a long time now I didn't play under 2nd edition rules (btw, is there any one here who tries sometimes to play with ? just curious...), but I remember level skills were very interesting, sound like a RPG, but was a pain to manage...
