How do you handle the Numbers on your miniatures ?

Post by Toby »

I mean the jersey numbers.

We use a small self-glue-ing paper to label the Players 1-16; doesnt look 2 stylish but does the job...

Usually i paint the numbers on the bases, though i am thinking for my chaos dwarfs to paint player names on the bases instead of numbers, that way if i lose the team sheet i won't have to come up with new names every time i write i anew one ;]

Well if a lineman dies then chances are that i will replace that slot with another linmen. Thats also another advantage of having the player names on instead, you can put any player at any number. Though you might have a problem using the same player name when you replace dead/retired players. I really am not that bothered by it.

I issue numbers by position...1-4 are BOB, 5-6 are Throwers, 7-10 are blitzers, 10-17 are linemen, 18-21 are gobbos, 22+ are big guys(using orcs for example..). My Ogre can be 88, my Troll can be 78... As long as I put the number in front of the name when I enter it into team tracker it doesn't matter. All my figs get a number on their uniform, I started using 1-16 untill I realized that I never make the same team twice. I guess the issue is whether you use the names over and over again. I do it like the NHL or NFL... Numbers get used over and over again. If a particularly outstanding player makes a name for himself, I retire the fig, and number. If not, hes another lineman #8...grist for the mills.

heh I like that idea of retiring the number and the model... you can create your very own hall of fame then

does anyone know if you can get transfers for numbers over 16? I can't paint numbers very well, so I have been using transfers... limited to 16 then :(

I have about 30 skaven to draw on for my skaven team, most standard players have a doppelganger with some kind of mutation or distinguishing feature so they can be swapped out if I get stat increases or mutations. That means I have a fair few players double-numbered. Ian's online teamsheets allow for changing player numbers so I can just swap the rosters around to make sure the miniatures fit the players.

Numbers are painted on the base.

I try to number all my teams the same

So my Orcs are
1-2 Throwers
3-6 Blitzer
7-10 BOB
11-16 Line Orc

My High Elves
1-2 Throwers
3-4 Dragon
5-8 Lion
9-16 Line elf

I don't bother numbering Big Guys since I'll normally only have 1 playing anyway.

I paint a piece of paper the same green as my bases (not the whole piece), and then print my players names on them, small enough to fit on the edge of a base, works a treat and looks good with different fonts for each team.

I paint the numbers... plus, I always number my Big Guys as number 7..

this is not out of allegiance to that number, but because it is the most common result rolled on 2 d 6!

Not, unfortunately, that we use 2 d 6 for MVPs in Amsterdam, but you never know when the rules may change...

I either use the transfers, paint a white dot on the edge of the base and write the numbers on with a fine pen, or don't number them at all (vampires; each of them is a completely different model anyway)

Painted on. As many of my players as possible have their number on their clothing somewhere. All of them have their number painted on their base.

Trust a jock! :P

For me it depends on the race/figure. There's not a lot of room on Amazons, whereas Orcs/Undead etc have a nice numberplate.

My players are numbered on the team roster, but there names define the character, generally the mini shows who he is.
I end up with some pretty lame names like Harry Redsash(human lineman)
But it does make it easy to work out who is who.
