How do you handle the Numbers on your miniatures ?
I mean the jersey numbers.
We use a small self-glue-ing paper to label the Players 1-16; doesnt look 2 stylish but does the job...

Well if a lineman dies then chances are that i will replace that slot with another linmen. Thats also another advantage of having the player names on instead, you can put any player at any number. Though you might have a problem using the same player name when you replace dead/retired players. I really am not that bothered by it.

I issue numbers by position...1-4 are BOB, 5-6 are Throwers, 7-10 are blitzers, 10-17 are linemen, 18-21 are gobbos, 22+ are big guys(using orcs for example..). My Ogre can be 88, my Troll can be 78... As long as I put the number in front of the name when I enter it into team tracker it doesn't matter. All my figs get a number on their uniform, I started using 1-16 untill I realized that I never make the same team twice. I guess the issue is whether you use the names over and over again. I do it like the NHL or NFL... Numbers get used over and over again. If a particularly outstanding player makes a name for himself, I retire the fig, and number. If not, hes another lineman #8...grist for the mills.

I have about 30 skaven to draw on for my skaven team, most standard players have a doppelganger with some kind of mutation or distinguishing feature so they can be swapped out if I get stat increases or mutations. That means I have a fair few players double-numbered. Ian's online teamsheets allow for changing player numbers so I can just swap the rosters around to make sure the miniatures fit the players.
Numbers are painted on the base.

I paint the numbers... plus, I always number my Big Guys as number 7..
this is not out of allegiance to that number, but because it is the most common result rolled on 2 d 6!
Not, unfortunately, that we use 2 d 6 for MVPs in Amsterdam, but you never know when the rules may change...

I either use the transfers, paint a white dot on the edge of the base and write the numbers on with a fine pen, or don't number them at all (vampires; each of them is a completely different model anyway)

For me it depends on the race/figure. There's not a lot of room on Amazons, whereas Orcs/Undead etc have a nice numberplate.

My players are numbered on the team roster, but there names define the character, generally the mini shows who he is.
I end up with some pretty lame names like Harry Redsash(human lineman)
But it does make it easy to work out who is who.
