An interesting debate :D

Our league has been going for 6 years. In that time we've tried everything - and even now in our league we allow star players to be bought. However...

1) Our league is "closed" - once the player has been bought - he can't be bought until released or sold by that team.

2) After 6 years of insane leagues, we have our OWN star players which we have costed and added to the list, so there is a massive variety of star players to choose from...

Of course, should one of these players die, they can NEVER come back.... :D

A few examples:

Klas Ingestone (human blitzer) 8 3 5 9 block, stand firm, surehands stripball

Karalan Karbink (Dwarf runner) 6 4 5 8 thick skull, block, surehands, pass

NOW DEAD :D

Also - in our leagues we have teams ranging from 100 - 300 team rating, we still use cards, we use practically ALL the daft teams out there (Kislev, shallya, spirit, chaos halfling (d'oh!))sometimes we use stadium rules...

Basically our LEAGUE can be very characterful (read anarchic! :o ) but thats the fun of it - after all we've been going 6 years! We have our own house rules and we like it like that - every year we have new changes., but basically we stick to the rules :D

At a TOURNAMENT - I don't think any of that is a good idea.... including star players who have no place at such events :D

Back in third edition, we viewed star players as multiple amazing players, not one person. Example: I could buy a Griff, but I would name him something different like Deiter Endzone, or whatever. Anyway, this made it so you could buy multiple star players of the same type.

I bought two Griffs and a bunch of linemen to start. Later, I managed to buy a Count Luthor. I won our league championship with a team rating in the 170's when everyone else was well in their 220's. Speaks volumes about Griff's ability to score TD's, adn the benefit of keeping your team rating down.
