My style of play usually involves building my fastest players with defensive/denial skills and using them to charge down the fullback off the deep kick.
With skaven this usually involves my non-double-rolling GRs having skills such as blodge, sidestep, diving tackle and passblock.
My latest team had a GR reach his 2nd skill and I was weighing up whether to get him diving tackle or shadowing. Thinking that Diving Tackle is the higher risk option I went with shadow instead.
Given the above discussion I think I'll be adding diving tackle as the next skill =)

Chet - I set my Trollslayer loose on this B***ard little GR, the one guy I needed to block away to spring my Blitzer free for a tying TD.
Would the git go down? Not on your life. Sidestep made it if anything HARDER for me to score.
Of course, I got the score on the one Dodge roll I ended up needing, but that roll was as nerve racking as any I've ever had.

Thadrin: Amen to that. Even if you do, as Chet said, knock him down and walk away, he's just forced you to make a diceroll you couldn't just ignore. Factor in blodge-sidestep and you've got a player that forces turnovers just by being there.
As I mentioned earlier, I always have players like this on my team, but with the changes to DT they're now just plain evil

Thadrin, you clearly misread what I wrote, so I'll post it again:
I usually just knock such players to the ground before I walk away
"
See, you stopped at hitting the player. Maybe your Troll Slayer needs to sharpen his skill a bit?
Better luck next time,
-Chet
P.S. I used to love building my Ghouls into B/D, Side Step, Tackle, Shadowing players (some combination thereof in three skills). When they worked, they worked well. When they didn't, they died!

Diving Tackle
This means there is an extremely powerful combo with diving tackle and shadowing. e.g. Gutter Runner, dodge, block, shadowing, diving tackle. He can follow almost anyone around the pitch at will and only use the diving tackle when it is guaranteed to succeed - and then make it really nasty and throw in Side Step too.

Yup .... but even with this combo out there ... I haven't seen people running to get in line for either Shadowing or Diving Tackle yet.
Speaking of this type of combo .... if you had a player with Gen and Strength skills and currently the following stats/skills: 7/3/3/8 Diving Tackle, Jump Up, Leap, Very Long Legs .... what's his next 3 skills that you would work on giving him???

I'm guessing this is a Chaos Beastman??
I would actually have given him dodge instead of VLlegs, but that's just me..
Assuming no doubles or anything fancy, I would give him Block, Strip Ball and Mighty Blow, but then I'm just a thug...

With all respect to Galak, I have lost track of the 200+ teams for which he has rules. I'm rapidly becoming a "strictly out-the-box" BBer... My tiny mind can't even comprehend Khemri for gawds sake!

For a nightmare defensive back...some combination of:-
Pass Block (goes well with VLL)
Shadowing
Tackle
Having said that if you go for these skills, I suspect he won't live so if you chicken out and take one of Block or on doubles Dodge I think that might be a good move! You could add Catch to the mix to go with Pass Block and VLL for an interception machine!
Alternatively for a more attacking player to get the ball by hitting and to go with Leap (although I don't much like AG 3 players with Leap):-
Block
and 2 of Pro (reroll failed Leap), Strip Ball or Tackle
NB I haven't picked any strength skills.... just don't think this guy should be trading blows!

Chet's list is the one that I was thinking of Block, PB, Shadow ....
Since I have 4 of them though ... I was half leaning towards:
2 of them Block, Pass Block, Shadow
2 of them Pro, Tackle, Strip Ball
Have to think about this some more .... BTW, I love this team ... basically I play them with the attitude of hey 1/2 the time on an AG 3 Leap I'll make it so let's go for it and its been a BLAST to play. Having every player with Leap makes for a lot of risky plays and a VERY VERY different way of playing Blood Bowl.
Hey, Chet/JKL anyway we can sneak the Slann back in some October ...
... come on Slann are sorta still in WFB with that big Slann Mage guy and the Lizardman cheerleader sure looked kinda Slannish ..... add to the fact that there are only 2 official teams from 1st AND 2nd edition that were never converted to 3rd edition (Slann and Werewolf ... both of which I think I've gotten the bugs out of) and you've got some support for reintroducing the team ... just gotta get JJ to cough up figs and we'll be all set. Chet even said he liked the team once ... so there we go! .... okay just kidding ... I realize that the Slann have the snowball chance in heck of making it which is more the pity. It would be cool if they could at least be a BB Mag article but last I understood the articles were not to be submitted for new teams as these were low priority.
I played against JKL with the Slann team at one point. Its a fun balanced team with definite appeal to the daredevil coach.
