Offensive Orc Blitzer skill choice

Post by Ludakk »

Hello, gents!
I have a blitzer who's MA7 now, has just Block, I'm thinking that he's a good offensive git since, he's been scoring Tds nearly in evey game I've played so far, could you tell me what I should give him next? Should he be mostly on offence? If not, how should he be used on deffence then?
Thank you!

There are a few different possibilities.

About the only usable skill for offense (without doubles) for a blitzer is Sure Hands. Pick the ball up, guard against Strip Ball. Since you have 7 MA, do you have kick for any player? This could make him useful in some situations to run in and scoop up a kickoff, especially if you roll a Blitz.

For defense, I generally recommend Mighty Blow as the second skill for Blitzers that are defensive specialists. This lets you rack up casualties a bit faster. Another possibility is Tackle, especially if you want a dual-purpose blitzer instead of a specialist. A final possibility is Guard, though (IMHO) it's a bit of a waste early for a Blitzer.

Sure hands, sure feet, catch, pass block. Most need doubles, thats why people call orcs a bashy team

For the orcs, I like keeping the blitzers pretty much the same. I would go with guard and might blow unless there's a lot of people with strip ball then go the sure hands route. And if you're playing the orcs right your ball carrier shouldn't be getting hit anyway.

On doubles, I like dodge, stand firm, and catch.

All Orcs are offensive, not just blitzers

I'm quite fond of giving all my Blitzers tackle. It makes your team a pain for most of the fluff teams. It goes quite well with MA as you can use him as a sweeper. Other than tackle the next best choice is Guard.

If you want to develop a receiver/runner buy a couple of goblins. They are much better at it than Blitzers.

If I do get to goblins and play them as my receivers than what should I do with this blitzer, what should be his main role on the pitch?
Thanks!

Run him into your opponents backfield and blitz his ball carrier.

I have a M7 blitzer on my orc team and he's a beast. I gave him mighy blow and guard. Now I hit doubles on him!

I really think Orcs need to devolpe their blitzers as a team. A couple that beat up anyone( mighty blow/ guard) & some ball grabba's( strip blall, tackle). Trying to get really creative with orcs is hard unless you hit lotz of doubles at the right time. Guard really helps on offense since your cages will be tougher to break. I cannot stress how good a lot of mighty blow can be. It can damage your opponent before dice are rolled. He'll stray clear of MB blitzers thus giving them a chance to move in for the kill elsewhere.

You might want to try stripball on a M7 Blitzer. I know you want offense but for orcs( like the NFL the best offense is a great defense!).

I have pretty much the same blitzer (M7 no further doubles/stat increases) and I have found that offensive is definitely the way to go. An Orc blitze who only rolls normal skills can easily turn himself into a defensive player with strip ball, tackle, pro, might blow etc. IF one gets a stat increase it almost always makes them a much greater offensive prospect. I have a goblin receiver, but if you're running a passing play (and I think Orcs should keep that option open because it is useful) the more potential receivers you have the better. Most of your players have to go for it just to get into range of the endzone on their second turn, so M 7 is a risk free player in that respect.

Problem is sure hands and maybe pro are about the only non-double skills that'll make him any better. Mighty blow keeps the SPPs rolling in, and guard is worth it because you will still want to field him on defence. Another option is shadowing (he's the only player on your team worth taking it for) so you can run into the opposing players field and try to mark his ball handlers. Pray for doubles though.

How about Dodge on a Double. Might keep him on his feet in more desperate rushes.

m7 with dodge, dodge/block on the defensive side, could evolve into an almost unstoppable scorer. Try rolling two sixes for the next skill :D

Blitzing! Tackle or Strip Ball. Both are good skills for developing a sweeper. If you've already got them then mighty blow and guard are useful too.

Go for sure hands or tacle. Sure hands depending of your number of reroll. Tacle is better i think. Coz you can get him close enough to the ball and lay a tacle zone on it. You can play him on defence and offence...which doesn't such a big difference with orcs! But tacle is so nice to take down those bloody dodging wardancers or catchers!
It's a very usefull skill that will serve you both during your turn and your opponent's turn. It might increase as well your number of casualties to get him shadowing after.
