I’m intrigued, just what did he do to warrant the need to calm down?!Purplegoo wrote:Think ‘the Champ’ could do with a little calming down (some good ideas in the room), but that’s a footnote to a brilliant day.

'The Champ' I'm referring to is the tournament's custom Star Player. Each team got free use of him for one half, and he was probably a bit good. He certainly dominated at least one of my games (with Owen), and there was a bit of a brainstorm in the room towards the end of the day about how he might be revised to introduce a bit of jeopardy while keeping him fun.
But again - in large text - it's a footnote and this was a great day.

Looked great and lots of associated razzmatazz in the build-up; the Midlands is quickly catching up with us in the South-West with regards to being spoilt for choice with the number of tournaments on offer.

@purplegoo - he didn't do anything for either coach in the games I played, well apart from take out my fanatic each time! But anyone with stab could have done pretty much the same. I asked as many people as I could how they were finding The Champ and no-one mentioned they thought it was OP, it seemed pretty ordinary to me, especially compared to other tournaments I have been too such as Burmayhem (I had a ST5 blodge witch elf last year!) or Auld World. I am going to email out all the coaches and ask for feedback so it will be interesting how many people share the view he was OP.
@Jip - yup, just waiting for Coventry and Nottingham to join in!

Sure. Hopefully I was clear above that it didn't spoil any fun or any of the huge amount of goodwill the organisation built up. It's a rare thing any tournament is as well promoted / organised, so for a new group to put on that sort of show was really (pleasantly) unexpected (and a bit worrying for those of us that haven't been putting that sort of effort in for years!
). I wouldn't have mentioned it again bar that one sentence had Jip not enquired.
I don't think I'd label him 'over-powered', but that wasn't the point. A house rule doesn't have to be 'OP' to slightly shift the focus of the Blood Bowl too far. Having a 28 % shot at a free AV7 removal (plus all of the other lovely stuff he did - Block / Stand Firm isn't to be sniffed at in such a skill-poor environment) for negligible risk is a tad problematic for me. It wouldn't take too much to reign him in to the point you had to think more about his use; send-offs on a double while strangling or +1 to armour only, Wrestle over Block, Blood Lust over Bonehead were all mentioned later in the day, and one of those would likely round him off nicely rather than leave him a pretty-decent shot to nothing. Reminds me a bit of the free Stand Firm dodging Fleshies in LRB4 really; not a problem unless it's suddenly really a problem!
But, anyway, not complaining. I'll certainly make every effort to be back, and you should also attend, casual reader!

In here:
http://stranglebowl.uk/pdfs/StrangleBow ... 20Pack.pdf
Basically
5 3 2 8
Loner, Bonehead, Block, Thick Skull, Dirty Player, Stand Firm, Strangle
Strangle (new skill)
The Champ may attempt to Strangle any adjacent opposing player instead of throwing a block, as part of a Block or Blitz action. Make an Armour roll, adding 1 to the result. If this fails, the Strangle has no effect. If this beats the victim’s AV make a roll on the Injury table adding 1 to the result, but treating a Casualty result as a KO instead. If a Strangle is used during a Blitz, the Champ cannot continue moving afterwards.

Thanks for the NAF name list Al. How confident are you in the accuracy of it? There's a much higher than expected number of people on that list who haven't scored GG points before which throws up a bit of a red flag. Are the ones with normal names non-NAF?
Leap - were any other awards presented? If so can you provide a list please?

That was taken direct from the Score file Leap sent me. The coaches with real names are non NAF and there appeared to be a few new coaches there, plus I recognise a few names who don't play too often (Pug for example), so no surprise to see new names going on the GG table20phoenix wrote:Thanks for the NAF name list Al. Considering our illustrious TD, Mr Goo, was in attendance I am a little surprised he couldn't persuade more to sign up. Must get him a bigger drum

Was under the impression that everyone was NAF due to the fact that when you booked it said you must be NAF to play in this tournament.
