I think the "horrible" part would not be the new set have larger squares, although I actually think that table space is already very limited when playing Blood Bowl.
I think the part where you can't use newer miniatures on old boards is frightening everyone.
They, and that includes me, feel like GW is trying to do something that will FORCE you to buy the new boxed set if you want to keep on playing OR ignore the new stuff and stay "oldschool".

And think about the exactly now ongoing ProBox campaign by Iron Golems: It would render the new pitch useless in about a year.

By the way, I did count the squares on that old astrogranite pitch you posted: 24 squares in length plus End Zones, 15 squares across, exactly like the pitch we have now.
So yes, they already had the squares enlarged once already, but don't you think that is enough?
Otherwise, with Blood Bowl 13th edition, I see myself playing in the park...

What I'm specifically worried about - take a look at these tables:

Blood Bowl World Cup:

Darkson posted this on page 4 of this thread:

Here's this past Comtoise Bowl:
Image

This is from something called the "Fun League Tabletop Tournament":
Image

Here's yours truly losing at last year's Ghost Bowl:
Image

Here are GW's own playtesters:
Image

(Disclaimer, I own none of these pictures and will take them down if you own them and complain)

I could go on, but I think I'm making my point. Many, many, many gaming clubs and tournaments have tables which are the perfect size for Blood Bowl boards. I didn't even know there WAS a standard table size until I started noticing how many tables fit my board perfectly.
A larger board would not fit as well. Maybe they'd fit if you played side-to-side, FumBBL style, which many coaches dislike - and at some of those tournaments, larger boards mean less coaches physically fit at the tables.

I'm also a little worried that my "normal" 28mm figures will look silly next to oversized 32mm scale models, and that this will make the existing scale creep worse. But that is less worrying to me than reducing attendance at large tournaments by 50% or so just because boards don't fit properly on tables.

Incidentally, the 2nd ed board isn't exactly the same - the end zones were two squares deep and the extra squares were "there". So you could run a receiver into the end zone, not worrying about getting crowd surfed if the pass doesn't work out.

LOL. Now, that's something I'd be genuinely interested in, so long as the miniatures were the same size as those chess pieces and had sufficient detail! Now, to source a 3D scanner and printer to develop them...

I mean, think about what kind of crowd a Blood Bowl pitch that size (squares that big, so actually a LOT bigger than that chess board) with two teams playing would generate at a convention!

At that point you're probably better off painting squares on an actual field and getting 20-some-odd people to dress up as your players ;)

Let's say, the chess pieces go up to knee height, around 50 cm or 20 inches.
According to that, you'd have a square size of about 30 cm. With a square being 29 mm, you'd have to go by factor 100.

The pitch has, including end zones, 26 squares in length and 15 across.
So "park pitch" would approximately be
26*29*100 mm = 75400 mm = 754 cm = 7,54 m = 297 inches = 24 ft, 9 in long and
15*29*100 mm = 43500 mm = 435 cm = 4,35 m = 171 inches = 14 ft, 3 in wide.

What a pitch to play on! :orc:
Yeah, you're probably right, to have this as the final match would be cool!

I just wonder if you would still have the same overview as you have on a regular board...

What a nice idea, really...
The first ever LARP Blood Bowl match in history! Let's do it!
(To bad I'm in Germany, with all you british players, this might actually be possible... :o )

Official evidence that they may well be 28mm (with a 'slotta base'):

And official proof they'll be Nurgle minis:

and cool dwarf minis:

Shame about the guy on the right:

Looks like a poor attempt to replicate the 5th Ed humans (the most recent GW Humans - not Zug or Griff who came later...)

If it's 28mm, and even close to reasonably priced, I'm buying it. GW is my crazy ex-girlfriend, and right now she's looking good, texting me and trying to get back together. She even apologized for the time she keyed "Sigmar" all over my car. Sure, I've been dating Black Scorpion, Neomics, and Greebo in the meantime. And I have a friday night date with J-Bone. But deep down I still miss her, and a Blood Bowl boxed set will cost, what? 100 Eur? That's just a non-committal weekend at a beach resort somewhere. Even if it ends up not working out, it should be fun on its own. What's the worst that can happen? It didn't cost me all that much to get the Purity Seal infection cleaned up last time.

In this metaphor, you guys are all my friends looking on in horror as I explain this over drinks at a bar.

Well done! I'm trying to hide the fact I'm laughing at work by snorting into my tea! Awesome bloody metaphor

Then they are using thinner bases.

Because the proportions match 32mm better than 25mm.

Steam ball - what size base is that Chaos Warrior blu-tacked onto?

Image

We've had larger bases for BB players before...

I think the proportions look like that the Chaos Warrior, as the largest base (pictured) doesn't look right either. YMMV - and clearly, we're still guessing.

It's a Bloodreaver from AoS, using 32mm base, you can read it in the article (click image).

They have produced 100 pitches for the bugmans cup. So we will find out then. I strongly suspect it is staying the same.

That cup uses old (=<LRB5), current (LRB6/CRP) or future rules?
