Was this fair of me?
Scenario:
Overtime, and I just knocked the ball loose and my ghoul near the endzone has it and will score next turn if not knocked down.
My opponent's playing Dark Elves...has a thrower on the ground next to a Wight of mine who has tackle. His Thrower has dodge.
He decides to stand up and dodge out to go get on my Ghoul for an assist for an upcoming blitz he will make.
Dodges out, rolls a 1. Goes to roll again with dodge skill (he has NO rerolls left), I point out that my Wight next to him has tackle.
He says "I wouldn't have tried that if I'd known that"
I showed him my roster before the game and used tackle I think with that Wight earlier. I'm pretty sure he wasn't trying to pull anything...I think he just forgot to ask.
He wanted to "take it back", I said no. I won.

Point taken...I definitely could have been more generous. I was a little irritated anyways because I'd just had a sick string of bad luck and was hoping it was turning around.Sixpack595 wrote:He was made aware of it, and forgot. It would be nice to let him take it back, but by no means required. I'd give you both average sportsmanship. He was a whiner, and you were a stickler. No big deal either way. Just a game.
Maybe I'll have to work on my generosity...I just like to be a stickler in our league games.

I think you were alright in that situation. Being an elf player myslef i always find my self asking my opponent who has tackle at the start of each of my turns! it just slips my mind as i play so i like to remind myself.
I think the same goes for guard, you need to ask who has guard before you go moving players or making blitzers, you cannot expect to move some players and then find out a player has guard and then just take all the moves back as they relied on an upcoming blitz.

This is the reason coaches in my league brought 2 copies of their roster to the game. Also every one of us (with a pc) keeps a copy of every one else's roster on our computers. We have an xls roster that is easy to update after games so nobody is ever without a copy of his opponent's roster.
Makes it real easy and much more sportsman like to say, "Sorry man, you have my roster right there. You should look before you leap. I win."

Don't get me started on sportsmanship...
I would have let him take it back, but then I like to lose...
With respect Penguin, if you had done that in our league in Amsterdam, no one would play you again... I guess I'm really lucky I found a league where no one takes anything too seriously....
I'm glad I don't play in any leagues you guys do....

I would have told my oppo before the dice was rolled on the dodge (assuming he wasn't too quick in rolling them) that my player had tackle. Otherwise you are giving him the best of both worlds - if he makes the dodge - then he won't take it back and then if he fails, he gets to change his strategy.
Once that dice is rolled, it is rolled - the only exception to this is I would make is if there is a packed board and (particularly with one or more big guys) and this obscures players with Guard making the roll into a one or 2 die defenders choice block - we have a rule that if you roll the wrong number of dice (ie too many) then you have to reroll all of the dice. Otherwise you get into the "I wouldn't have rolled if I'd known" and "I got 2 pows so it doesn't matter" arguments.

I usually point out defencive skills of my players when they influence some thing my opponent does.
So he says "dodge" and before he rolls, i say "tackle". Then i allow him to reconsider his decison if no dice has fallen yet. If he rolls too quickly or does not announce his action ... not my fault.

As that result was decisive for match outcome it was fair and ok to burn him. He should've known better. He must've known that there were a tackle-wight somewhere. He was being too anxious and it cost him.

I'm with Dave, I'd have pointed it out before the dodge was rolled. I tend to point out my guards as well. Probably why I don't call IPs either, I'd rather win or lose due to tactics and Nuffle rather than because somebody overlooked a guard or forgot to move their turn counter.
Personal choice though, the onus is on him to ask/remember. (I believe you should walk at cricket as well.)

Cool, thanks very much for all the input you guys. I'll go with the "tell my opponent before he does stuff strategy"...I like that.
By the way, my policy on IPs is to always give at least one warning. I can't remember the last time I called an IP on someone who didn't have a reroll to burn, at least.
