Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

Is it defending them if they are so lazy they cannot use the rules that have been out for the last 6 years. Does not feel like defending to me.Darkson wrote:Man, I hate defending GW...

Re: Blood Bowl back at Warhammer World
If they are trying to reestablish tournament Blood Bowl in Warhammer World, surely they should be trying to engage regular tournament players? Which none of this does (including the timing, so close to the NAFC...)

For those who cannot remember what the LRB 5.0 rules even were they are still here online:
http://www.bloodbowlonline.com/LivingRulebook5.pdf
After 6 years ... even the guy that wrote them is not remembering everything that changed ... but it was definitely enough that you should not roll back the rulebook to 10 years ago.

My tuppance
All the races supported have a figure line available, they just need converting.
Cyanide, have produced a lot of damn fine artwork and GW are making good use of that. Ties the 2 together even more. Which could mean a closer tie between the online and board game in the future.
It is weird that they are using LRB 5, instead of CRP. I don't think that's laziness, in fact I can't see how it could be laziness. "Ok, this is the version I found online...........I won't bother to see if there's a 6 or not....." No. There's a reason for it, and my hunch is figure line. I think Galak's first assumption is correct. I'd also say that LRB5+ was when the 3 new rosters come out.......Slann being a defo no no, it could be that. I really feel it's figure related though.
I know the BBRC put a lot of work in to fine tuning the rule packs, and I can see why they'd be upset by 5 over 6, but for a 1 off tourney with coaches that mostly are going to be new............I think the difference between LRB5 and CRP are going to be diddley squat. I'd go further to say I'm not sure all are improvements...........I guess for resurrection yeah sure CRP is the optimum.
It's interesting...........like a lot of what's going on in our hobby. Hard to know what to do..........this after BB2, I think it's more sit back eat some popcorn and see what transpires. Strange they haven't suggested where to find LRB5.........and that Cyanide suggest Icepelt as the rules to follow........that's messy.
There's not much there that I think is terrible. GW taking control of BB will almost definitely mean bringing it back to hobby status rather the waterlike fluff, quasi chesslike competitive game it's becoming with tourneys and online. (not that there's anything wrong with either environments, just that there is no professional fluff driving either scene) That's good in book.
What did you expect? GW to let the 3rd party manufacturers to rule on their own turf? If GW are going to get back into this game; that of course is going to be rule number one. Squash the mediterranean monopoly. I guess this does give some intention of their intentions. Gives a bit more credence the possibility of them getting back in this game.Regash wrote:I am a bit shocked about one or two sentences...Are they actually expect people to have a shiny, original, 100 % representative all-GW team after the game has been OOP for 10+years?!?Additional: All miniatures in your collection must be Games Workshop miniatures and be fully assembled, painted and based. Each model must fully represent what you have presented on your team roster, and be 100% obvious which player they are. - See more at: http://warhammerworld.games-workshop.co ... dkR3B.dpuf

Well.............if they know that site exists, I'm sure they've had a C&D letter. The fact BBO hasn't changed one bit in the 6 or 7 years means they have stood their ground or they don't know. So.......I'd be almost willing to wager a testicle (almost but GWs stupidity in the past has caught me out) that that's not going to where you're supposed to download the rulepack (oh and get a fully working client while you're at it!!)GalakStarscraper wrote:For those who cannot remember what the LRB 5.0 rules even were they are still here online:

See ... I think what you just said actually would confirm pure laziness.harvestmouse wrote:

What makes more sense to use a 10 year out of date rulebook that has major major changes to teams (see Khemri, Goblins, Dwarves, Skaven and Wood Elves) ... or to use the current rulebook used by almost everyone currently playing and edit out the new star players from it that never had official GW figures.
There is only one right answer to that question to me ... and the only reason you answer it the other way is you are too lazy to cross out a few names.
The 3 new teams were never ever part of the CRP so they are not even part of this discussion to my mind.

Re: Blood Bowl back at Warhammer World
I would say figure lines. I really feel that everything is about figure lines. Any official star has a 3rd party figure and that just won't do.
"Sorry, that star is not a GW figure"
"Yeah well if you made the bloody figure I would have bought it"
That's a scenario they definitely don't want.
or
It could be laziness and they believe the latest rulepack without slann is LRB5. LRB5+ had them so............I guess talking to JJ would clear that up........but who knows how the chain of communication works there now. Certainly, always was problematic.
The fact that the first rule of the competition was about figures, and the only way for BB to work for them would be to take control of the figure line.........I believe they're using that rulepack based on the rosters or star players in that pack. My initial hunch anyway.

Re: Blood Bowl back at Warhammer World
There's lots of supposition and conjecture here. Lets look at the positives - GW are backing an event ahead of a relaunch of the game we all enjoy. They have long been criticised for leaving the game unsupported. Why do we feel the need to do the same when it looks like support is coming back?
Whatever the reasons for the selection of the ruleset, this would seem to be a perfect opportunity for NAF to offer a new olive branch to GW to represent the interests of the BB community.

Re: Blood Bowl back at Warhammer World
I'm not sure GW think like this, and even still I don't think this is a macro decision. The manager of Warhammer World probably has targets to hit with regards to sales, and with BB being released again one day he has asked if he can run a BB weekend to fleece the kids, and someone in strategy has said "yeah, sure, whatever". At which point WW have made up any old nonsense from what they remember of BB, and slapped a £55 ticket price on it. That would be my bet. I doubt one single person in GW has given one single second of thought to engaging the community or regular tournament players. We are the suckers who will buy the box if they wrap a turd up in a cardboard box.BillyDee wrote:If they are trying to reestablish tournament Blood Bowl in Warhammer World, surely they should be trying to engage regular tournament players? Blood Bowl back at Warhammer World
Well to play devil's advocate, I suppose because the comms around this has been sketchy and rolling back the rules on a whim for a flagship event doesn't particularly look like "support". Lots of people worked hard to build and establish a stable ruleset, so arguably this move is less supportive of the community, more a bit of an up yours. Not necessarily my opinion, but I can see how one might reach that conclusion.axiom wrote:There's lots of supposition and conjecture here. It would be wrong to assume that this has not been attempted and is not continuously a topic under discussion. Rest assured that all options in this direction are being actively explored.Whatever the reasons for the selection of the ruleset, this would seem to be a perfect opportunity for NAF to offer a new olive branch to GW to represent the interests of the BB community.
