Norse Starting Lineup

Post by Robotorz »

Hello,
I would like some hints on Norse Teams, since i am interested in them (mainly the Blitzers). The article on blood-bowl.net is inaccurate (reroll 50 k instead of 60k & old rules) so I tried to make a good starting Cockerel:

3 Blitzers
1 Thrower
8 Lineman
8 FF
3 TR

I playtested against my own Rookie Orc-(Tr 160) and Human-Teams(Tr. 180), and following Teams i made up or have taken from the internet:
Skaven (120), Wood Elf (100 & 200),Dwarf(TR120)& Chaos(130) (simulating some kind of league)
I did that not to give away my tactics and set up before the league begins.

I did quite well (exept for poor skill and cash rolls), but since the real leage starts pretty soon I would appreciate help from other (more or less) experienced coaches with REAL experience!

The way I want to develop my team is a running game(ill leave passing to the elf teams) with 1 or 2 catchers near their endzone trying to get as much attention (by counting squares to the endzone and so on) 8) as possible. Short Passes from the cage to a catcher at the side of cage who then runs and hands off to player in scoring range...

Team Advancement:
For skill advances i had these sets come up to my mind:

Blitzers:
Normal: Tackle or Strip Ball, Pro & Strip Ball or Tackle
Double: Dauntless, Dodge or Stand Firm

Catchers:
Normal: Dodge, Catch, Side Step, Sure Feet
Doubles: Dauntless, Nerves of Steel?

Thrower1:
Normal: Accurate, Sure Hands & Sure Throw
Double: Dodge then Strong Arm

Thrower2:
Normal: Sure Hands, Dump Off & Accurate
Double:Nerves of Steel

Lineman:
as Usual a mix of
Dauntless, Dodge, Kick(1 player),Dirty Player (at least 2),Tackle

First Buys:
Apoth.
4 th Blitzer (as i had problems on offense, weird I know)
2 Catchers
2 nd Thrower

Thanks in advance!

Mind you, I've a better idea of what not to do in starting a norse team (through experience), but I do like that starting lineup. If you for some reason end up becoming the casualty suffering machine my norse have become, you'll need that apothecary. :smoking:

I would highly recommend starting with an apothecary right away, it'll save you from a nasty surprise should someone die.

yep, you should start with an apo.
I remember my first game with norse were i got 7 cas against me.

And you should give Piling On to your blitzers as their first skill.

Hi
I played a few game with my brand new Norse team and i realized one thing: even though they have block, they are very fragile so the apoth should your 1st buy if you don't start with it.

I would also give piling on to the blitzer since it combine so well with jump up...

My starting is:
4 blitzers
1 thrower
6 lineman
3 RR
9 FF

Buys: Apo, catchers, RR, then maybe a big guy.

I tend to prefer the mino as I have a bad habit of rolling 1 for the bone head roll, and I also like the fact that the Mino has frenzy so if your just roll a pushback, you have another chance to knock the guy (or yourself...)

Last remark, don't give catch to your catcher as they have it :D

My two cents

Develop the Blitzers, they really are quality blitzers. And for the love of Nuffle, ignore that they have catchers until you've got some skills and exeperience. They may look like humans, but they aren't built to do much more than quick/short passes in the early going. :smoking:

Wow redfang, you saved my ass on that one! Old habits die hard. Nuffle sucks, forget I said "for the love of..." Screw Nuffle (hope Torg the Grand Heretic misses this faux pa!) Whew, thanks for putting me straight. Guess that's why I'm an apprentice. :smoking:

I would recommend taking a Catcher instead of a Thrower. A Thrower won't help you much in the beginning since he is no better at picking up the ball than anyone else. A Catcher (ironically) has Catch and is much more useful for taking handoffs from other players for your running game. Get a Thrower a couple of games in.

I m planning to start a Norse team too when the next tournament starts. And i ll start with this roster:

4 Blitzer
1 Thrower
1 Catcher
5 Lineman

2 RR
8 FF
1 Apo

I know that i ll play an unexperienced amazon team first. So i think its ok to start out with only 11 players. But the apo is a must for armor 7.
And yep! Piling on is the way i ll go with all my blitzers...

Well, if you want a roster variant, there goes one:
7 linemen, 1 Thrower, 2 Catchers, 2 Blitzers, 3 Rerolls, FF 8
That's twelve guys and three rerolls with a decent FF. If you wish, you can switch one reroll for the Apothecary and an extra point of FF, but two rerolls aren't enough for a team without sure hands.

Thank you all!
Your comments where realy helpfull to me!
Ok then ill exchange the Thrower for an Catcher to have some advantages since i dont plan on passing that much (at least early).
But i am not sure how to keep 3 re-rolls and still start with an apo.
And I dont want to start with 9 Linemans since I only need 7
(7 Lineman+ 8 Positionplayers+1 Big Guy=16 )

The startingline up I found possible:
2 Blitzers
1 Catcher
9 Lineman
FF 7
RR 3
+ Apoth

OR:

2 Blitzers
1 Catcher
8 Lineman
FF 9
RR 3
+ Apoth
+ 20 k in Cheerleaders or as spare Money for later use. But since I dont think ill take Cheerleaders at the start of a (newbee)league if i have a FF of 9 i am not quite sure if this pays of well... and if i am Unluky and get lots of K.O's and Cas. the extra Player would be a good help.

About the Blitzes and Piling On:
I thought I would use them as my "Human Team" Blitzers:
As Blitzers/Touchdownscorers and therefore designed them to Blitz, but I guess your right. Since I cant get Jump Up on any other player, Pilling On is Okay on Blitzers and I will have to build them to Blocker Types and give other players Frenzy and Strip Ball (Btw. I love Frenzy and Strip ball in Combination)

My starting roster is :-

3 Blitzers
1 Thrower
2 Catchers
5 Linemen

2 RR
9 FF
1 Apoth
10k treasurey

I don't take 3 RR's, as I always fail them anyway
