So why do they want my ID?

I'm about to hop in for someone who won't be able to come to the WC and I've just heard that the organizers want a copy of my ID card. Is it mandatory or can I skip this requirement?

If I can't, is it enough to send the front of my ID and/or add a watermark to the images?

it is mandatory to send to us a copy of your ID Card, front and back, with
no blur.
Without is impossible to participate to the tournament!
If you have other questions, we remain at your disposal.
