Re: Ochilbowl Stirling 22/08/15
Sadly it was:
1st Geordie (Pipey)
2nd Geordie (CircusBear)
3rd Scot (Garrick)
4th Kiwi Scot (DonShula)
5th Geordie (Don_Vito)
6th Anglo Scot (HumptyTrump)
The top 3 finished the tournament undefeated but Pipey was the only one to win all 3 (Circus Bear and Garrick drew 1-1 in the second round).

As Pipey says I was undefeated, but 3 draws isn't saying much! One interesting thing revealed by this is that the scoring system used favours 1-1-1 significantly over 0-3-0. A win and a loss is basic 17/18 points, vs only 14 from 2 draws. Is this too much of a deliberate bias with bonus points being max 2 per game? I fully agree with encouraging people to play for the win, but I haven't been to enough tournaments to understand how far from balanced is a good working basis. Here this was the fundamental difference between 6th and 13th places out of a tournament of 16. Thoughts?

Re: Ochilbowl Stirling 22/08/15
Plenty of ways of different scoring systems though I prefer the 2-1-0 type where a 1/1/1 result = 0/3/0.
I think this was 15/7/0 with a tie just slightly less than half a win. Seems pretty reasonable.
Maybe you didn’t pick up too many cas/TD bonuses?

Re: Ochilbowl Stirling 22/08/15
This was 15 for a win, 7 for a draw and 2 or 3 for a loss depending on TD difference.
So a 1/1/1 record would be 25pts (or 24 if the loss was a big loss) and a 0/3/0 record would be 21pts.

I didn't pick up any bonus points which is why I didn't come second, and don't start me on Dan's ability to throw 5s when he needed topipey wrote:Plenty of ways of different scoring systems though I prefer the 2-1-0 type where a 1/1/1 result = 0/3/0.

I rather liked the scoring system.
Results will go on NAF tomorrow. Don't have time right now

Well spotted Michael, should have read "second" and I have corrected my original post.Vanguard wrote:Garrick wrote:...which is why I didn't come third.
I thought the scoring system was good, I feel 2 draws should be marginally less than a win.

It's been part of my Geordie training, although they were supposed to be 6s, so I've not quite mastered the skill yetGarrick wrote: and don't start me on Dan's ability to throw 5s when he needed to
And thanks to all for another great day of BB in Stirling, would be great to see it as a weekender (purely for selfish reasons - relocating to London it's gonna be a long trip for a 1 day event, but would definitely be on the cards as a 2 day event!)
