Ask this to a Halfling Coach... The answer can be surprising.
I played halflings with the intent to win, and finished the season with a .500 record. Anything else you want to add?

I'd like to add that thinking twice before posting may be helpful... Right after posting, I just remembered that you played a succesful Halfling team.

Zombie, I look at dedication to the game as part of being a good coach. That's one reason why I think it's ok for soe leagues to penalize non-painted teams.

Besides, you run an open format but you are arguing against it.

Whatever...go pick a fight somewhere else.

i think it's safe to say you'd be in the minority of halfling coaches with that point of view. most people who play them have no expectation of winning. That doesn't mean they don't still try, and I've known some with better than a .500 record. Some extremely good coaches. However, if they were really intent on winning, they'd probably play another team and instead of a .550 record they'd have and .920 or whatever. :)

To have fun?
It ain't any fun when there's zero chance to win.
So you're saying I didn't have fun at the BB tourney, because I knew I wasn't going to win it? Strange, I thought I had a fun weekend. Still, you must be right.

That's different. Would you have fun playing against your normal league buddies if you knew that you had zero chance to win? If you know you can't win, you won't even try to win (what's the point?), and then the game will be boring for both coaches.

I just saw a guy play TR100 'flings against TR185ish WElfs this Thursday. A fun time was had by all, including all the rest of us watching and laughing.

Yes I would, as I play my friends for fun, and just cos I can't win, doesn't mean I'll make easy for them.

I've played games set where, deliberately, the sides have been set against one side of the other, and they are still fun, the "Custer's LAst Stand" scenrio (in fact, I playing one of these types on Tuesday coming).

It wont be close to 0 unless u leave it a completely open format. Set some ground rules and it will be ok for the most part.

Zombie... (Pariah I know you know this already)

Check out http://www.rebbl.com

There is a 2 Conference, 4 division, 4 teams in each 'closed' or 'fixed' schedule league called the REBBL league, which is in its last regular season game. The Red league.

There is a Open REBBL Challenge League, which is a totally open league, the green league.

Both use the LRB rules.

Make your own assumptions... By the way... the team that won the Challenge League (since it is on its 2nd tournament) only played 3 regular season games. The runner up entered the playoffs having played 8. The league used the best three games played during the 'season' to determine playoff seeding and the points as outlined on the rules page. These were changed for this 'season' to using the best 2 games and your worst game, we'll see how that goes.

But it puts a damper on the team that plays the most in an open format is the best... it just isn't true and there is proof.

Tim

PS. No offense Piotr... :)
