Or make the endzone 2 (or even 3 squares) deep so that receivers can loiter there without being instantly surfed.

2 squares-deep endzone like in 2nd edition would be great... if you failed a gfi while trying to score you wouldn't risk to have the ball go out of bounds and thrown in.
