Astrogranite pitches
Are the old 2nd ed astro pitches still legal? Have the dimensions changed? Does it matter?

Re: Astrogranite pitches
The pitches are a little smaller than the 3rd edition ones so that would make a difference for passing. However passing is usually pretty rare and longer ranges even moreso. It probably wouldn't make that much of a difference for casual games.
Alternatively there are charts that allow you to calculate the range of passes based on squares so you could use that instead.

Re: Astrogranite pitches
Im thinking of attending my first tournament this year, would i need to invest in a 3rd ed pitch?
If so who does the best?

Re: Astrogranite pitches
The 2nd pitches are also a row longer, as the EZ used to be two squares deep, so you'd have to remember to blank the back row on each side.
Most tournaments have a few spare pitches available, and most attendees bring one with them, so if you let the TO know that you don't have a pitch then they can make sure there's at least one available for you to use.
As for the best, it depends what you're looking for. The GW ones come up regularly on eBay, and are the one most people will easily recognise (I've heard some, though not many, people moan about some non-standard ones). FF-Fields make some great roll-up vinyl or foamboard jig-saw boards, with the option of customising them, and Impact make felt pitches which take up minimal room in a bag.
Basically, you go for what you like the look of best.

Re: Astrogranite pitches
Space being a huge consideration for me, I carry an impact felt field on top of my bag, in a mailing tube....
And Tom, of Impact, is an awesome guy who has given possibly the most to our game, besides being an all around great customer service pro...!

Re: Astrogranite pitches
So ive been on FF fields website and typed in my custom requirements, but nowhere does it quote a price.
I presume they email me a price later. Does anyone have a rough figure of costs?
Ive chosen a roll up normal size pitch.
Anyone else have any experience of this way of getting pitches?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Can't recall the prices, but I have both type of pitch from FF-fields and can recommend them.

Re: Astrogranite pitches
I just recently paid about 100 € for a custom jigsaw pitch at FF-Fields.
Also, I recall 3rd edition pitches being sold at tritex-games.
I myself have the old astrogranite pitch too and consider it poor manners to stomp the opposition into anything less than the best available ground: Astrogranite™!

Re: Astrogranite pitches
I am quite sure that, if you asked for a field in the 'for sale' section,
you'd get some response
from members wiling to sell
a pitch..
you'd get some response

a pitch..

Bugger
Which pitch sold by impact is correct? They all seem different.

Re: Astrogranite pitches
Quick note, if you buy the Impact pitch, don't forget to get some dugouts as well. Your 2nd edition dugouts are not sufficient.
Good luck at your tourney!
