How long have you been playing Blood Bowl?

i started in 88 when i was 10-11 years old, introduced to GW mini`s by a friend a couple of years earlier, 4 of us got together and played regular four way matches, as i recall we wanted to play 40k rogue trader but couldn`t afford it so thought we`d give Bloodbowl a go, a pretty good decision that turned out to be.

I bought a second hand box set at a local market in September last year, and 6 weeks later kicked off in REBBL. Only ever played under LRB, and I've played more games of PbEM than I have of tabletop, though like Smeborg, my son is a regular opponent (and victor ) Can't see myself going back to chess or WHFB, BB is much better for a larf

Started when 3rd was released. Had a very good league running until 4th came along and tore my league to shreds . The LRB has my area playing Bloodbowl again, and for this I am very happy.

I played my first game against my brother-in-law in 96 when we visited him on vacation. He thoroughly trounced me, but I really loved the game. We then played off and on when he'd come home for Christmas. I really got into it about 6 months before 4th edition came out when I stumbled across BB Central. I now have over 350 figs and 5 boxed sets....
My son is only two but he already loves the figs, now I just need to teach him the mechanics and I should be able to inflate my win totals until he gets a bit older.

1990, after reading an article of Games Workshop games (including Blood Bowl of course) in a computer mag. Therefor my mini's are mostly 2nd edition - No, I won't sell

86-87, used to play 1st ed. with my older cousin, then bought 2nd ed when it came out, followed by Star Players, Dungeonbowl and Companion (off a kid at school for a fiver ) . Played that to death in a league with my mates. Stopped for a couple of years before 3 ed. came out, then it started again. Still in a league with the same people I played 2 ed with
Don't play as often now though, have a weekend of constant BB every 2-3 months, punctuated by javabowl games.

I started in 88, but quit around 90 when I decided my free time and cash was better spent boozing and/or trying to get laid. About 8 years later I learned to better manage my free time and am now able to do both...just not at the same time.

Voted '88, when 2nd ed. came out, but played 1st ed. a few times (never owned it though )

Well. I was 14 years old, about 1992. I used to get an allowance from my parents ($10 or so) and I'd walk down to the Comic Book store which was just down the street and blow my cash on comic books and candy, since I had yet to discover that you could get magazines with nude women in them (I was innocent then, what can I say? ). Anyhow, I remember going down there one day, picking through the stacks of comic books, and then I usually amble over to the shelves where all the wargames are. I've always loved miniatures, and have collected them, but could never finish the numerous amounts to do a war game properly. So as I was shuffling boxes on the shelves, I see "Blood Bowl: The Game of Fantasy Football." "What's this?", me thinks. A board game that's football with fantasy warriors. pure genius! And all the mayhem a kid could want too. So I saved, and saved....and the Store went out of business before I could get it. A little time later, I discovered girls (and the aforementioned magazines), beer, and the joys of adolescence. So, I never got the game until I was surfing the web a couple of years ago, hit the gw website, saw it, remembered how cool it looked, whipped out the plastic...voila! I own the game and 10 teams. Ah the magic of plastic.

I got started early in high school back around '87-88. It was after 2nd Ed came out that a friend of mine bought the boxed set, and soon a small group of us were hooked. Played pretty consistently during high school, then fell out of it when I went to college in '91. Fast forward a couple years, and 3rd Edition is released. I grabbed a copy, played a few games, then signed up for my first 3rd Ed league.

The rest is history. Became a fanatic, abused the internet bandwidth by spamming BBOWL-L, took over from Andy eventually, put up Spike! Online and BloodBowl.net, etc., etc., etc.

I've been a member of three different leagues, each with it's own flavor and a ton of fond memories. Playing with my high school buddies in Anchorage, AK; playing with my first organized league in Fairbanks, AK; then running a huge league in Chapel Hill, NC. All three have been a blast.

Played my first one-off games under second edition. Must be somewhere between 91-93. Then bought the third edition box and been hooked ever since.

In 1988 I received a free copy (FREE FROM A TROLL!!!) of the 1st ed rule book as part of a mail order from GW (also got Star Trek roleplaying rules for free... no idea what happend to that book!). I made up my own board and used paper squares to represent teams. Only played a few games with a friend before he moved away. I then would play games on my own as the coach of both teams. I discovered 2nd ed at university (the Wits war games club - WARP). I took all the rule books and photostated them - including the Star Players handbook. This was my staple rules set until 3rd ed came out and I actualy paid for my first Blood Bowl material! From there I started a few leagues at my local games shop with varying success. Just recently I have had renewed interest in BB and have bought the 1st ed red box set, the 2nd ed box set as well as the Star Players handbook and the Campaign handbook, and every team I can get my hands on - so I probably have over 150 BB and BB related (non GW) miniatures. Blood Bowl remains and will remain the greatest board game in the history of Games Workshop.

Started in 1992 and had a handful of games under 2nd Ed. At the time both games were available to me but the 2nd Ed minis sold me over the cards of the 1st Ed.

Bought 3rd Ed as soon as it came out here in Australia and gamed with my friends in a very localised league. Played the game intermittenly but constantly over the next 6 years. Then got heavily back into it as my primary game (as oppossed mostly to RPGs) late high school, and early uni. Met some new gamers at this time and introduced them to the group.

As an aside, of all the games I play (GW and RPG) none have proven as successful at introducing new people to my gaming group. The fun of the game is infectious to the point that several disapproving girlfriends have even had some introductory games. Ah yes, this game can work miracles .

Under 4th ed we pretty much played on using house ruled 3rd Ed, as after 1 local tournie and a few practice matches for same, we verified our belief that those rules were crud. LRB is great, but we still love the cards and house rule one or two things.
