Fouling on the last turn...

Post by frogboy »

Fouling on the last turn...

So I just got back into the anonymous game of FUMBBL, now I know it's not something exclusive to this area of the game but doesn't it just make it that much easier to "stick the boot in" when your hiding behind a screen in the secure comfort of your own home/office or wherever you play.
I think its great, I mean let me paint a picture for you. I just finished a game on FUMBBL and the game, as it dose, had some peculiar kick off results which resulted in me scoring early on in the first half and nearly again before half time with my relatively new High Elf team due to two "pitch invasion" results which left most of his Chaos team Stunned. Happy Days I think.
Well in the second half I kick to them and he slowly slogs up the pitch to finally score in his 8th Turn. He could have scored in turn 4-5 but he must have thought a draw was better than me having a chance with the ball again I guess. Well this was just a normal game, no tournament standings or anything else to worry about, he's not going to get knocked out of the Cup or anything so why not play for the win.
So after the equaliser touches down, he sets up his Chaos with only a Minotaur and two Chaos Warriors on the LOS and everyone else is touching the back end of the field, his own touchdown area. He's playing like the game is done ? So I set up for my last turn and beatdown his Minotaur then foul that big old cow whilst he's lying down prone in the recovery position. I got to say this is a confession as I giggled maniacally and a little bit of wee came out. I was excited and could smell the beef thinking of that T-Bone.

So my question is this, how many other people foul in the last turn ?

Don't leave your cattle unprotected or the wolves will come out to play

Do I foul on turn 16? Depends on the situation.
Tourney match - yes, if I can, even if foul CAS don't count. It's a bit of fun :)
Online random MM match - yes, if I can, I might see that team again and if I can damage it in some way I will (however I dont ever play random MM style, so this will never happen for me).
Online or TT league match - I might if I am sure of seeing the team again, or if their next match result will effect my placing in the league table and I want them to lose.

Actually I got kind of pissed off recently when someone did that to me in a Cyanide league match. The game was well in hand for me and he had nothing to gain other than a bit of revenge. I actually put on the brakes to not embarrass him with my wood elves. I could have won about 5-1 but the final score was 3-1. So I was kind of surprised when he saw my newly Strong Arm thrower, dropped him and when he didn't casualty, he stuck a cleated boot in his head and killed him. He said he didn't mean to kill him - so what was the point of fouling him? You wanted to hurt the guy but not kill him?

I have no issues with strategic fouling. A werewolf or wardancer who needs to get the hell off the pitch? Great! But that was senseless.

People who foul on turn 16 are Eleventh century Anglo Danish Kings.
1014 to about 1040 or so.

If you cannot stall out for an 8 turn drive to score with dwarves then you need to go and play canasta with your dad..if you can find him.

It's blood bowl, there is no issue with a turn 16 foul, especially if you know this could bea future opponent. There is nothing wrong with softening up a team on turn 16. The game will is not over until the final whisle goes.

I say lay the boot reguardless of the turn, the great Nuffle wants blood he cares not how it comes.

T16 fouling: use the search function, only been discussed once or twice (or 3 or 4 or...).

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

I would happily fould on turn 16 too. There's a chance the other player thinks it twice about stalling in the future if he keeps loosing players because of fouls on the last turn : D

In my league (Wild League Forlì) it is considered offensive to your opponent not fouling on turn 16.
You get insulted by your opponent if you don't foul his players.
I actively encourage new coaches to foul my players on turn 16.

The record I hold of which I'm most proud of is the record for 14 fouls in one league match.
And I was playing High Elves. 8)

Why? Because it's fun. And because in the word "Blood Bowl", "Blood"comes first.

I just done it to show the game ain't over until the final whistle. Stalling annoys me but I understand it and I do employ that tactic too on occasion. But giving up before the finale whistle, players who do that deserve a smack down, surely ? I mean I want to play my full 8 turns init !

Thanks for the responses and I appreciate that it's been discussed before. See you all on Turn 16

You gain nothing, you potentially damage an opponent who you will probably not face again, at least until he has recovered, if you kill his player you make the next person who plays him more likely to win. Finally it is just a dick move done by a certain ruler and the tide will come in.
To me it's not "fun" because it is overwhelmingly pointless to counter-productive. Spiteful if you lost and bullying if you won. never happens in my league, for all the reasons above.

Sometimes do. Depends on how I am feeling and how the match went. Rarely hold it against someone if they do it to me - if I've blatantly been Nuffled all match then I might be somewhat miffed, but that's about it.

It's not a League, its just a BlackBox game. As far as it being a "Dick move" I'm not sure i follow that, if he had played "properly" then it wouldn't have happened

Anyway your entitled to ridicule me I didn't set up the thread for any other reason...

He did play properly, he controlled the clock and got a draw. He respected you enough to know he was not going to get the ball off you and score against the kick. Then you repay him with a move like that. The only mistake I can see is putting the tard on the line
