I want the cards back
Hey guys, remember the cards. You know, that wacky randomness that was so very fun?
Players digging tunnels under the pitch, someone hiring on wizards that send big fists at opponent, some dirty git setting up a spike trap on the pitch, one of your players having a hit record, someone throwing a bananaskin on the pitch, drugging the opposing players, having the all run to the can, gaining a rare scroll that gets all your BH's and KO's back in action, Kidnapping the opposing coach, etc etc.
It was hilarious. *sigh* I remember fondly those times. All the mayhem and chaos that could create, adding so much fun flavour to the game.
Wouldn't it be nice to reinstate the cards?

I voted "no" but I don't entirely agree with the entire statement. I like the random whackiness and the goofy stuff. I even liked some of the cards but unfortunately the cards would need a major overhaul for me to support them. The upset the game too much.
I'd be interested in helping to create new cards, available on line, if anyone was interested.
And before any BBRC members or suck ups jump in here and give the old "We didn't do the cards online because not everyone can get on line blah blah blah
let me just point out that the LRB is an online document and was the only way to get the current rules for the Blood Bowl Tournament.

Oh well sure, given the LRB, and stuff, the cards would need an overhauling, I never ment it to be, "bring the old cards back unmodified" I think some new cards would be in order, yes. Agreed on that. I'd also like to help create some new cards.Pariah wrote:I voted "no" but I don't entirely agree with the entire statement. I like the random whackiness and the goofy stuff. And regarding the BBRC, I completely agree with you pariah, that arguments is BS.

I voted no.
furthermore, I have the slight feeling that the wording of your poll choices are biased, though.
As you have to roll constantly dices during your turn for nearly every game decision you make and everything from gate, weather to fun factor, ageing and match winnings are handled via dice rolls, I think there is enough "randomness" in the game, even without cards that change the game flow 150% just because you drew one particular card. It reminds me of the old 2nd ed. magic system which made any tactic useless bc your opponent had the possibility to spoil/change EVERYTHING with just one lucky (spell) roll.

I dont think anyone wants them back in the exact form as they were. I think the poll is just fine. I voted yes, i dont want them as they were but i want them. As for a physical means, just have people use a deck of cards with some taken out. Yes i know what the people at GW would say about that.

the wording of your poll is extremely biased.
i kinda miss the cards a little, but if they were to be brought back i'd want it in a VERY limited form, and not IN ANY WAY related to the handicapping of matches, and not rolled for. IE both players get 1 card from a single small deck with, say, 30 cards in it. Some that used to be magic items, some random events, some dirty tricks.
but if the choice is simply "cards" or "no cards" i say none. the game has plenty of randomness in it still.

NO! The best thing that ever happened to the game was getting rid of those results. All those game costing results were just ridiculous.
That said, I like the randomness of the cards, wackiness of the cards, and being able to hold something in your hand.
Some random wackiness is good, even preferable to me, but more along the lines of minor nuisances, not gamebreakers. Handicaps, randomness, anything else... It would be preferable to have the card system over the table system.
I,too, thought your poll choices showed bias. I didn't completely agree with the whole "NO" statement.

I like the table but i do think it doesn't help a team enough to make the match more even. I hated the cards I really did. Just to match stuff to carry around. The table is in the rule book I like

The problem with tha handicap-table is that it is largely inconsistent. I have seen results which had nearly no effect on game play (palmed coin) and results which made me lose the whole game (had to begin the game with 7 players only after 6 were"running late", afterwards the whole team got bashed). Assassin and Mickey Finn/apothecary can get really annoying/bloody. I'd prefer a table which gives consistently the weaker team extra money, MVPs, players, FF, RR and skills and removes RR, FF and a FEW players from the stronger team. I am not in favour of "bloody results" whith auto-injuries or encouraging fouls etc.

I'll say this til I die, the handicap system should be plus or minus a certain number of rerolls for a certain amount of difference in the team ratings. I also think it shouldn't be a 1 reroll for every 20 points worth of difference because the difference between 120 and 100 is waaaaaay different than the difference between 180 and 200. A new table should be built.
The cards should be consolidated into one pile called 'Random Events', and have a light effect on the game and virtually no long term effects. They should be an optional rule just for flavor. Each coach should get an equal number of cards and the cards should never kill a player directly or seriously effect the game. Cards like greased shoes, banana peel, custard pie, exploding player, the money cards, and the bribe the ref cards would be good.

I like the X#re-rolls for handicap and agree that there ought to be a ratio for different levels of handicap. I'm not to sure how to do it and make it simple but your atatement about the difference between 100 and 120 is a lot different than 180 and 200 was right on! Maybe make +1 reroll under 120 TR or something.. I dn't know.
Exploding player?!? I don't remember that one.
I think I'd have remembered that one.
I'd say that the money cards have too much long term affect as would That boy's got talent and such. Team building cards. I might be wrong and wouldn't fight either way, for or against them. Other cards would be good but were too game-breaking in their original forms.

I think it was a Dirty Trick.
If your opponent blocked a player that you hadn't moved yet that drive you could play the card. It made your player a dummy filled with TNT and I think it forced an armor roll on the attacker. Then caused the exploding dummy player to be put in the reserves box.
