The Melbourne Blood Bowl league ( http://melbourne.bloodbowlleague.com/default.asp?p=ru ) has a house rule for the
Fan Favourite skill that seems absolutely awesome to me.

[ Fan Favourite Skill – to encourage further banter/rivalries in a similar manner as the bounties each division in the new structure will have a single Fan Favourite player. The Fan Favourite will be celebrated through the blood bowl world for his or her prowess and will contribute +1 Fame while on the pitch for in game rolls (i.e kick off events but not post game money rolls). To claim the title of Fan Favourite (and be credited with Fan Favourite skill on the team’s roster) one of the following events must be triggered;
o The player scores 3TDs in a game
o The player inflicts 3 Casualties in a game
o The player claims a bounty on another player.
o The player maims (SI) or kills the current Fan Favourite
o The player has a casualty, TD, completion and interception in a single game.
Once a category is triggered, the coach must claim the player’s status in a post on Ausbowl or email/in person to a member of the rules committee. The player then retains Fan Favourite status until the end of the season or another player of his division triggers a change of Fan Favourite (in a subsequent round) and the previous player is forgotten by the fickle blood bowl media and fan base. The single exception to this is that a player who scores a casualty, TD, completion, interception and the MVP in a single game gains the Fan Favourite skill and a bounty of 50,000 gps for their entire career. ]

That way you don't have worry about 'cluttering' your league with fan favourites. In addition, you can fight to get the fan favourite every single game (even if that's just by stomping the current one ;) )
