The spike gripe thread.

Post by Madsherman »

Come to think of it I hate spikes on all types of armor.. No armor IMO has ever had actual pointy spikes because they are so incredibly impractical. Anyways, I don't mind people liking them, I just don't like them on my team is all.

Have to agree with Fatfinley on this one.

I hate skulls. Espescially on my blockdice.

I've tried filing them down, but people keep complaining that it's not 'legal', or 'fair'... What's up with that..!? :-? I mean come on, give me a break! It's not like I am competitive or something... * grumble*

Norse blitzer horn inspired by Dagon from Conan the Destroyer.
Bad Gary. No.

I actually really like it, but talk about a shit movie to get inspired by...

Spikes only bother me insofar as they are designed to attract and cause damage on the minis. But their presence on the players armour is part of the fluff. BB players are thugs in sports gear and pro BB is hardly a fair and unbiased sport.

True true. But you can still be a badass without the spikes. Also the spikes in the 3rd ed rulebook illustrations are syringe-grade pointy. Nobody would live out a match without permanent injuries.

To be fair, in 3rd Edition not many players did survive a game without some form of injury.

Icepelt Rulebook, p.35 (and dating back to at least the 2nd ed. rulebook): "One could also hit an opponent at any time, as long as one did not use a weapon! Nuffle said that one’s body was one’s weapon, and – although he allowed amour – all weapons are forbidden from the arena." Straight from Roze-El's bearded mouth!

It's a standard theme of the game that the "rules" get interpreted as liberally as possible, which leads to spikes & punch daggers being considered part of the armor kit, while daggers remain forbidden.

(I happen to agree that punch daggers look pretty dumb, but the spikes are a big part of what drew me to this game.)

Punch daggers can be considered as fist armour.
