The spike gripe thread.

Post by Madsherman »

I want to say sorry in advance for stepping on peoples toes. I know I am questioning the very thing that makes Blood Bowl the game we love, but what is with the spikes?
I remember having a problem with this when I bought the 3rd ed.
set and saw an illustration with a skitter stab stab trying to assasinate a dwarf player. Why the eff would you get ejected for carrying a knife, when your suit has 17 of them welded onto it? You COULD argue that the knife is larger than the spikes, but then you open the worm can of the fist spike. Morgs is what? A foot? Foot and a half? You'd have to bring in a shortsword to get ejected then!

I actually don't mind the spikes in general. The smaller, blunter spikes I quite enjoy but this weird turnoff of mine has resulted in me filing down the spikes and horns on my Norse team. I like Blood Bowl to look like a sport more than battle (which is why I never use metallics for my color schemes, but that's a whole other story :) )

...Anyhoo I know it's just a game and were supposed to have fun with it, I just needed to get this gripe out of my head... It's been sitting there for 20years :D and I'm curious to know if other people feel the same way? Let me assure you that this is nothing that ruins the game for me, just a bump on the road is all.

I thought this was going to be a gripe at the Spike guys in B.C., was right in here to tell you how much fun and friendly they are.

I do agree about the spikes on the figures, dark elves most of all, it seems a little out of hand

Interesting...
I always figured the spikes and stuff weren't as sharp as you'd think and the Knives would be sharper or coated in something.
In all reality, I never really expect Blood Bowl to be fair, so it never bothered me.
Good thing to think about though.
BTW, I did shave off the horn of my Norse blitzer. I hated it. Looks much better now.

I too like to de-spike and de-horn models. Especially hate punch daggers.

Yeah, I minimised the horn. Looked like the helmet would fall of if I didn't :D

More spikes!

I'm a fan of the spikes! I want every one of my team members to look like the Legion Of Doom! As for the secret weapon/knife thing, you're probably thinking about it a bit too much! I'm sure there are plenty of other holes in the GW fluff too! Haha!

I'm fine with spikes--what I can't stand are handheld weapons. I'll be on a perpetual quest for the perfect DE Assassins that have nice spikes instead of daggers. Who brings knives into an athletic competition? I mean, honestly...

This is Blood Bowl, not an athletic fair play competition.
By the way while a knife can be handled easily and used to stab through the weak spots (armour chinks etc.) is way harder to use a spike on a armour piece to target vulnerable body parts.

Yeah. I tend to like to keep models the way they come, but that guy's horn was so dumb.
He's one of my faves after getting rid of it.

I ever thought that rhinoceros-like horn was a bit weird as well.
In my opinion an helmet like that of Dwarf Blitzers would be more suited to Norse Blitzers (a full or half-facial mask with a conic winged cap).

Love the two Norse Blitzers - only two GW figures I have on my planned Norse team, and no, I won't be de-horning either of them.

on a similar line, I hated feathers on 2ed Dark Elves and would remove them too.
