How depressing

I have had the same problem advertising for my league, in GW stores. People just don't seem as interested as 40k and stuff. The thing that really gets me angry is when you see an ad for a club pinned up somewhere and they adverstise all the games they play and they include BB and you make effort and go ou there and noone actually plays BB they just don't mind if YOU play. grrrrrrrr

If you want to see the world, you definately don't want to start with Red Deer (or as we call it around here, Dead Rear). Calgary would be a better place to go.

Balrog, if you could line up a job for me I would gladly move to Montreal (though my French sucks very badly).

And just for the record, I guess I wasn't that clear, we don't have a local GW store and the local game stores (only 2) wont bring any GW product in. And Anthony, I almost laughed when you asked whether there were any game cons in RD, never had one probably never will (this place is barely 70K pop).

the town i live in (Terre Haute, IN) has a bit more than 1/2 that much (around 40k ppl) and back in the BB heyday (3rd ed) we had a league with 70+ coaches. Of course it's a college town, so there are a disproportionate amount of gamers here, but still...

As I said in the original post, there is a college in this town as well and back in 3ed days, we had alot of coaches and leagues, but interest died out and hasn't been able to be restarted because A). No store here wants to carry GW stuff and B). GW Canada is waaayy behind on getting anything related to BB in, so even ordering through MO doesn't help.

right i've had a lot of trouble with it now too...a lot of the old guys don't like many/most of the new rules, and the new guys just hear the old guys complain and figure the game must suck.

plus people got sick of trying to figure out the "new stuff"...4th ed turned a TON of people off to the game with appearance fees and especially ospa (i hated it too, to me the whole fun of the game was building players, and it punished you for it)...

then lrb fixed a lot of that but people are still kinda gunshy I think. hopefully i can work thru it around here but it's an uphill battle. i don't forsee our league ever making it back to it's 3rd ed heyday...and i blame gw for that.

You don't need to speak French to live in Montreal! As long as you speak English, you're ok!

Hehe, I know your pain, I grew up in a town that size. I didn't even discover GW games until I moved to Toronto to go to school, I had only seen bits and pieces until that point.

Well, none of the guys at my club want to BB for a while (at least 6-8 months) so I'm stuck with PBeM, and least until I move and get get either Broadband or a decent dial-up connection so I can JavaBowl

Why not. Might be a good place to hide out a while. Not that I'm on the run or anything exciting like that (

), but I've always gone to small towns in out of way places here in the states (ever been to Da King, Louisiana, or maybe that town's neighbor, Da Queen? I have!), and I've found I've gotten a better feel for the people. Sure, seeing the cities and the cultural aspects like that are great. If I got a decent paying job in red deer, you'd have yourself at least one player!

Aren't you studying to be a lawyer? I would suspect that you would want a job in a lawfirm (which should be well paying), if not I guess you could always try the pork plant (Olymel) or there is always the oil patch.

Right. Almost finished with my degree, if I can just finish up this blasted thesis. Actually, if I were to move up to Red Deer, I'd have to become licensed in Canada, which means studying Canadian law and that would be more work, but if the price is right I'd do it (now that doesn't sound like an attorney, does it?

). The pork plant probably could use one, or maybe the fool who loses a digit because of the bad working conditions in the plant! And I'm sure there are plenty of accidents...any native tribes near by? I've done a lot of focused study on native tribes and their legal status. heheh...anything to be able to go to a place where I could play in a regular league.

Studying Canadian Law would require you to go to University of Alberta or U. of Calgary, which would mean living in Edmonton or (duh) Calgary. But there would be regular leagues in those cities (I presume).

I don't remember exactly the reciprocity requirements, but I think I would just have to do more or less crash courses in procedure and the like, and take the Canadian equivalent of our bar exam. I know that Canadian attorneys are permitted to sit for border U.S. states bar exams, and if they pass, they can practice. I'd need to do the right research though.
