How depressing

Post by Colin »

I tried to start a BB league here in the city that I live in, but got zero response. I had a notice printed off and displayed at the local (non-GW) games store and the owner even said he pointed it out to people who came in. The first meeting was yesterday and no one showed. There were people in the store, mainly young kids playing Magic cards, but none who was interested in BB. There were leagues in this city before, lots of interest generated back when 3ed was re-released (the first time), but interest died out when new stuff stopped being released and the game wasn't being produced. One of the problems is that GW Canada doesn't support BB much at all, mostly interested in the "big three" games, they haven't gotten in any of the new teams (including the Khemri, which was out last year). It's kinda depressing. Maybe I should move to a bigger place that has established leagues and tourneys....hey Anthony, how's the job market in T.O.? Maybe I should move there, I would be able to indulge in my hobby on a fairly regular basis (unfortunately it is Toronto).

BB in the shops

Post by Smeborg »

Jervis said at the BB recently in Nottingham that Fanatic were appointing someone with the responsibility to make sure that BB was available in the shops.

That's just the UK, but it's a start!

Here in Singapore, GW has just opened its first outlet 2 months ago. Guess what - they stock Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000, Lord of the Rings, and Mordheim. Nothing else. I spoke to the manager, a nice guy, but he did not seem interested in stocking BB.

I recommend you try advertising for players on the various net forums (there are only 4 or 5 high traffic BB sites, as far as I know). This may prove easier than advertising in the shops, since BB coaches are unlikely to visit shops which don't stock BB!

Cheers

Well, that would be a good suggestion, unfortunately I am the only one from my area and one of the very few from my province that is a member of this and the NAF website. The closest TBB and NAF website posters are in Edmonton or Calgary (a couple hundred miles away in either direction), and as I said, there aren't that many of them. I just don't think there are many of the former BB players left here in the city. Many were college age when 3ed was popular, so probably have moved on to other places or just lost interest completely.

Sounds depressing indeed. I hope you don't start playing against yourself. Nevertheless, I would be suspicious of BB players who hang around the local GW store, anyway. :) I experienced that the more mature and dedicated BB coaches do avoid the normal GW clientele.
BTW here in Germany, they also do not stock BB stuff in shops (at least not in the three ones located in Berlin).

That doesn't do much but i hope it cheers you up :D There's nothing more depressing than not finding any players...

Do you have any gaming cons in Red Deer? Doing demos is a great way to get people hooked. We did a huge one at Games Day last year and had an amazing response.

Here in Portugal we have the same problem.... even for more "conventional" games can be hard to get someone...

SO, I married soon, let the kids growth a little and started playing with them....

Meanwhile somefriends have seen the game and just getted hoocked - with BB it's really easy...

Move to Montreal!
You can join my league, and there are at least 2 other BB leagues here that I know of. Not to mention our city is more fun then Toronto (then again, a dead squirrel is more fun the Toronto...)

The best way to drum up interest is to play the game at the store. Get a couple of nice painted teams and find someone to square off with you.

Do it on a regular day (Sunday?) and play one game a week. You'll get people interested in no time. Make sure that if anyone watches that game that you offer to explain it to them.

The best way to show off the game is to show a couple of coaches having a blast with it.

No BB in store here in Utrecht also

Might come soon, but the store is in a fight with GW. GW broke some promises (not selling to the other store next door, what they did just 4 days ago ...)

GW stuff might be coming in cheep soon
