Why all the hate for the living, DG? Is it a form of "necrophilia" ;)

Yeah, I'm going to try them just to check out how they play. I have a rough time playing against them in tournaments. So basically, I'm infiltrating the enemy to better kill them and have them join us in Necromania.

Not so much, but a hate for teams with inherent advantages that make coaches lazy and hubric (spam & cheese)....
Gobdomino wrote:I agree with everything you guys said with some caveats. I use sure hands because I am notorious for rolling twos. Second, sure hands defends against other players who have strip ball and there's a lot of them in my league. Even an AG 4 won't minimize sure hands (still reroll a one or better able to pick up a ball in someone else's tackle zone). The great thing about Necro is someone doesn't have to be consigned to be a ballcarrier. Choosing Block on ghoul first is an excellent way to go but I personally am not effective without someone on my team who can pick up the stupid ball.
This is what mitigates the hell out of an otherwise great team: nearly no personal reroll and/or football skills.... Elves don't need the rerolls since they only fail on a "1" anyway... and are masters of avoidance play... without needing any coaching skill... spam (+Ag, i.e., 4) and cheese to the max.... Ag 3 suffers twice the failure rate on many critical rolls.... So, for a team that desperately needs "balling" skills to compete, you have to choose between a blodger and a fetcher (at least initially) on a fast, weak piece.... While others make useful ball carriers in a pinch, your wights and weres are your better blitzers....

See, I think you're just seeing it from an Undead perspective, Digger. My Undead have a heck of a time vs elves, but my Humans play any elf race at every opportunity and we almost always win: that AG4 means nothing compared to the across the board player cost and lack of S skills. It's just a matter of paper-scissors-rock.

Elves tend to have the highest win percentages. They are probably slightly overpowered, but since people generally don't want to play them as much as bash teams it likely doesn't make sense to nerf them

That's a function of paper-scissors-rock. Chaotic and/or Strength teams are popular because they're easy and fun to play with, and new coaches still building their skill sets get to deal a lot of damage while they climb the learning curve. Elf teams are the natural predators of Chaotic types and high-ST bashers. Elves' natural predators, OTOH, are the midrange (human-type) teams, only one of which (Amazon) is really easy mode at any TV, and even then they tend to drop out at high value.

So it's not that elves are so great. It's that elves' prey is popular and their predator is not.

Ranked Amateurs, for example, have the opposite gripe.
Vs. Amazon, Dark Elf, Elf, High Elf, Skaven, Slann, Vampire, Wood Elf: 16-2-0 (.944).
Vs. Goblin, Halfling, Underworld, Ogre: 4-0-1 (.800).
Vs. Chaos Pact, Human, Lizardman, Necromantic, Norse: 9-6-3 (.667).
Vs. Chaos, Chaos Dwarf, Dwarf, Khemri, Nurgle, Orc, Undead: 6-6-9 (.429) and half the wins are vs Nurgle (3-0-0), all at very low TV where Nurgle aren't competitive.

I think I had read somewhere, and it may have been Digger's Necro-Tacticum, that they decreased the value only on Flesh Golems by 10,000 after having jacked the rerolls to 70K in the last rules change. The beauty of not having tons of people play Necromantic (especially in tournaments) is that everyone forgets what they are capable of. I have frenzied all kinds of people out of the game or reminded people about FGs' Stand Firm. Our league complains about the ridiculous cheap costs of a Dwarf team and how nerfed they are but I guess Blood Bowl needs beginner teams. Now no one in our league plays Dwarves because they are afraid to look like cheesy chumps. So maybe the Necro player gets some bragging rights. Or we are just elitist. Either way works for me.

Dwarves are arguably the best team at TV1000 but they do get weaker as TV goes up.

At TV1000 dwarves are a nightmare for chaos, at TV2000 Chaos is a nightmare for dwarves :)

Heff...Keeping the Dwarf (and lego) hate alive
If you cannot stall out for an 8 turn drive to score with dwarves then you need to go and play canasta with your dad..if you can find him.

Thanks for the umpteenth time: to the members of the now defunct bbrc that voted down the need to give ghouls regen or access to apothecary like vamps and trolls....

Another ghoul player died today taking the mvp and 7 more spp with him... also denying future use of surehands till I skill another.... :pissed:

May nuffle visit your dice accordingly....

Wandering Apothecary should be for any team, I'm down with that. Undead with a rostered Apoth, that's just broken.

Well, Matt, if they are restricted from use on regenners (as they should be), a world of good is to be had....
