Oh now I see why it isn't a team event.
Bren is eager to win his own tourney this year so wants to avoid being done over by a misjudged decision to fix the draw that last year led to his playing me, therefore avoiding any risk of an unexpected draw against a sub par player.

Jon, as you rightly point out I am desperate to win all tournaments including my own*

*if I play, and if I can muster a decent result with some middling tier teams

Actually any Monkeybowler could win the Watermonkey prize, even if they didn't place in the top 10 of Waterbowl. Would require them to come first at MB, and all the above to finish outside of the top 10. Then it would be a shared prize (with me!).

In other news, the Saturday night meal is booked for 8.30pm. It will be Italian again and there is no need to tell me if you’re coming or not until the Saturday morning of the tournament. I’ll also ask you to pre-order what you're having from the menu passed around before lunch. For those on a budget, it’s incredibly cheap and cheerful!!
