I enjoy reading his posts, voyager. Everyone's entitled to express their opinion, Mike no less than anyone else. Based on this thread so far, the issue seems to lay with those who are incapable of allowing their voice to be just one voice in the discussion; if their view is not immediately praised as a universal truth they go into a rage against dissenters. Hardly mike's fault. In fact I think he's performing a public service.

I would still like to get his views in the hobby as opposed to opinion on the sheen on my jackboots

Erm, so you have blocked him so you can't see his response? Doesn't that make moderating a bit tricky?voyagers_uk wrote:Even though I cannot currently see his response

No I can choose to look based upon the reactions of others if I so wish, that way I am not grinding any perceived axe of my own but instead looking for violations of site rules which he is not doing currently

Fair enough. Haven't stated my opinion previously, but the only extra moderation I think is needed is about getting people on topic, splitting threads, changing titles, that sort of thing, which seems to be happening a bit more recently.

Re: Fun vs. Fair ... the debate between trolling and proper
There are only two reasons I've ever seen someone call for more moderators and moderating, and criticize the lack of moderating in a forum. Those two reasons are:burgun824 wrote:I think ultimately it boils down to our current moderators objectively asking themselves if they need more help doing the job or not. I'm fine to leave that decision up to them. I'm guessing others would not be so keen on that idea. I think we need to gauge if there is a high level of dissatisfaction on TFF. I personally don't think there is, but I'd reserve further comment on the matter until I've heard the opinions of people that are more involved with the site.
1) Someone is saying something the other someone doesn't like, and the first someone wants them silenced.
2) Spammers have filled the forum with garbage, and it has sat there for more than a day.
Only the second one is a good reason. People will often say that they want moderating in order to help people get along, but the truth is they're really talking about consensus at gunpoint - not getting consensus by actually causing everyone to agree, but creating a false consensus by making people afraid to, or incapable of, disagreeing.
This thread is really two different questions... first, should there be more moderators, and second, should the existing moderators be removed. Linking them together is a sneaky way to try to push the second agenda through as being less confrontational than it really is. My personal answer is that I don't see a need for more moderators, and unless we're talking about getting rid of voyagers_uk, I don't much see a need to be rid of the old moderators either. They may plot my death from time to time, but I don't hold that against them

Perfect time for you to split your posting off into a seperate thread! Do that, and I'll be happy to answer!voyagers_uk wrote:VM, what, and you may actually want to place this in a separate thread to avoid cluttering this one, do you actually love about this game of ours, which are your favourite teams and styles of play. I think if we as a group knew more about you we would enjoy reading your posts again. Not that that should matter to you but would you be willing to share?
Amen to this. In fact, the administration of this and other BB communities might consider taking a look at the things you've been doing as the communications person for the NAF - promoting activity and interest is exactly what moderators SHOULD be doing... looking for ways to facilitate people's involvement, rather than limit it.sann0638 wrote:Haven't stated my opinion previously, but the only extra moderation I think is needed is about getting people on topic, splitting threads, changing titles, that sort of thing, which seems to be happening a bit more recently.

Weeeelll you did just preside over a 4-12 season when you were 10 yards from the Super Bowl the year before. Some criticism is due.voyagers_uk wrote:So just to summarise. You want rid of me.

Unfortunately, being a moderator gives one the power to be a prick and the inner circle of bromance gives one the immunity to practice.....
Unfortunately, also, the bromancers circle the wagons rather than correct their own and most of the rest of us practice a reverse form of nimby: as long as the situation is not directly affecting us, we don't get involved...
I don't know the history of UK and VM, and hope it becomes more neutrally constructive than the direction it is headed....
However, and most unfortunately, sensability is not required for the job....
It is far too easy to police rather than promote....

[OT]Voyagers -- Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean we're not out to get you,
Could we have a werewolf vote for mods???? you know I'd vote for you
[/OT]
on topic to be fair to all the mods never really had an issue - still read VM's posts and as even the people who really seem to dislike him say - he does make some interesting and sometimes even insightful... not inciteful posts. I agree with some I disagree with some cest la vie.
