If someone buys BB (if/when GW goes down), they could (and probably would) change any of the rules how they see fit as it would be their game, so wouldn't really help the BB community.

Or they might not.

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

I really hope this bit isn't true, I'd heard we were getting new Wood Elves this year. I have plans for a wood elf team but need some decent plastics for conversions. A wardancer kit along the lines of the witch elves would be ideal.* Wood Elves, Bretonnia, Beastmen and Khemri products will no longer be
produced, updated or supported
Back on financials, profits being down so much is certainly very bad, but I wouldn't break out the champagne to celebrate the demise of GW quite yet. They have posted losses in the not too distant past and people have been predicting their demise for decades.
If the rumours of mass cutbacks of other armies turn out to be true then I fear that would be a bit silly. By restricting their range to basically space marines they risk putting all eggs in 1 basket. Once people are bored of marines they will go to a competitor rather than taking up fantasy, LOTR, necromunda, warmaster, BB etc.

Although seeing as they only support 2 of your listed systems...spubbbba wrote:Once people are bored of marines they will go to a competitor rather than taking up fantasy, LOTR, necromunda, warmaster, BB etc.

I don't think GW will go down. I think they'll completely reinvent themselves before closing the door. Still, I admit to enjoy the suits having a rough patch.
Not the rank and file though, they'll get the axe before the upper echelon. That part is unfortunate.

I've always been surprised how they can afford to keep as many staff in store as they do. I understand the concept when its very high valued items, however when the sales are low value, as per GW, you surely need consistent sales, which I've never particularly witnessed, even in better times for them.

heh i visit the escapist on at least a weekly basis but that one had slipped by me. Good article and true. I dont wish GW to burn but i would love to see them rethink the way they run things. I miss the time when i started playing and really enjoyed 40k (dont hate) it was between 1998 till around 2003. There were a lot of exciting things happening then and i remember when units cost half the price they do now. I take it back, i just looked at the prices. £25 for a tactical squad! i remember (briefly) when a tactical squad cost £10 and a command/Terminator/Devestator squad were £15. Ive just gone all sad

My first GW purchase was 3 Space Marine heavies for £3, followed by a box of 30 plastic tactical marines for £10. I'd guess I'd need a new mortgage to buy those now...Oly1987 wrote:heh i visit the escapist on at least a weekly basis but that one had slipped by me. Good article and true. Nah, box of 5 heavies £20, 30 tacticals £45. So £10 to £45 in 26? years. Quite similar to inflation where the daily mail calculator informs me £10 is worth £21.08 now... Still tis only a 450% rate of interest over that time.Sandwich wrote:My first GW purchase was 3 Space Marine heavies for £3, followed by a box of 30 plastic tactical marines for £10.
