Re: Dead Dwarf
I miss the old days of White Dwarf where it featured scenery making articles, a converting model section and sometimes even a freebie (ie: 1 model or a piece of card board scenery)...
Infact I used to have the cardboard Dungeon Bowl stuff from White Dwarf at one point. It was just the cardboard endzones, teleporters and chests, which attaches to the dungeon tiles from Warhammer Quest. I think GW did a PDF of them with the Warhammer Quest tiles thrown in - so it'sprobably in the download resources section on this very forum?
EDIT: Just checked and found this on page 1 of that thread (funnily enough it was me who posted it, lol!) http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_Cus ... n_Bowl.pdf
Them rules on that PDF link were in White Dwarf itself and everything except the Warhammer Quest tiles were that issues freebie.

Re: Dead Dwarf
And it turns out that this one is indeed true:
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/wnt/b ... d=12800022
edit: ''Warhammer Visions'' is a far more useful name to have on the shelves in newsagents, supermarkets and the like. Everyone knows that 'Games Workshop' is the 'Warhammer Shop', but 'White Dwarf' is a bit of a stand alone name. So bringing the name of the core products into the monthly mag seems like a wise marketing choice.
It remains to be seen which if either of these mags is more hobby orientated, but I'd personally hope for more hobby related content in WD as in days of yore.
Putting more writers and columnists on the editorial team seems to bode well though. I was surprised at Christmas to learn just how many staff are on the WD team right now, more than twice as many as the past highest number.
Will either of these be of interest to us?
No, because gamers like us aren't target market,we quite simply don't need the support of the local shop to enjoy our hobby, we've been around long enough to have gone beyond what they do.
It's worth remembering that many GW hobbyists deliberately never move beyond the confines of the shop and the company (my personal feelings on such habits notwithstanding I have many Friends and acquaintances even locally whom return to the local store time and again for their gaming and hobby fix, and shun the local clubs out of preference. I couldn't, but it's what they want from their hobby), regardless of age or any other factors, but I'd hope this marks a change in direction to better support such die-hard adult customers than in recent years.

Re: Dead Dwarf
£2.50 for 12ml (more often 11ml in truth). The mark-up from cost would leave even the most profit hungry of dragons applauding GW's ability to pull an MSRP out of thin air and then achieve it.
It doesn't compare favourably to the competition, where the same price will get you 20ml from any of HMG's three ranges (Foundry, P3 and CDA), or less than that will get you 14ml from Vallejo.
But captive market is captive.

Re: Dead Dwarf
Has the quality improved though? I heard it had. Vallejo used to be better and cheaper when I painted years ago.
Also £2.50 for a mini-mag every week is nonsense.

Some say the paint is better. I've tried it and it's still shite.

Re: Dead Dwarf
Vallejo is 17ml, not 14, I remember reading about some kind of tiny 8ml but so far all the rest has always been 17ml. CDA & P3 are 18ml, Foundry 20ml. Reaper .5oz (18ml?). Only smaller than Citadel I remember is Tamiya Mini, 10ml (some countries have non-Mini, lucky bastards).JT-Y wrote: It doesn't compare favourably to the competition, where the same price will get you 20ml from any of HMG's three ranges (Foundry, P3 and CDA), or less than that will get you 14ml from Vallejo.

Re: Dead Dwarf
I however still like their foundation/base paints.
i can get VMC and VGC here, but Citadel base is quite good. And sometimes needed. Just not their whole line

Re: Dead Dwarf
Typo. Sorry.
Yes Vallejo is 17ml.
Citadel Foundation is, to me, the worst offender. I'm sure you could mix the ink squeezed out of a felt tip pen with tiling grout and get a smoother paint.
HMG once said they ceased supplying Citadel paint when asked to reduce quality and therefore cost. They pointed out that a hundred years reputation for quality shouldn't be lightly thrown away to suit one small customer and recommended they look elsewhere.
GW insists they looked elsewhere because HMG couldn't meet their huge demand.
Pick the one you think sounds right.
Edit. I always overlook Reaper, but then it is harder to get here so I haven't had a proper chance to try it.

Re: Dead Dwarf
I find the newer foundations are pretty good, Khorne Red for example. I also find some of their colours are a bit more vibrant than Vallejos, which I generally use. Citadel are let down by the paint pots, and a cynic/realist would say encourages further purchases. There's no reason for not using droppers these days, superior in every respect.

Vallejo MCs lean towards natural colors, muted. Vibrants appear more in VGC and VMA ranges (fluidity also changes).

I don't by GW paint for two reasons, 1 its too damn expensive and 2 I am a grown up and want to buy Black or scarlet or orange or... not Khorne Red or Chaos Black or w@nker white or whatever stupid name they think of.

Re: Dead Dwarf
I don't mind paint names that have a bit of fluff to them. When it starts getting rediculous is when you can't tell what the colour is based off the name.
What colour is The Fang meant to be? Or Steel Legion Drab? Or Drakenhof Nightshade? Or Daemonette Hide?
