Was: Dead Dwarf Now: Paint range discussion
Rumours are rife that Granny's propogand vehicle is undergoing some extreme, some would say terminal, changes.
These rumours are being treated as fact over at Bell of lost souls....that means they're probably true.
White Dwarf as is will be reduced in size to effectively a weekly pamphlet. This will be available at game shops.
There will be a monthly minis showcase mag in place of the current WD called Warhammer visions that sounds like a glorified catalogue.
sounds like an attempt to get people to pay more for the already lean pickings to be had in today's WD if you ask me. I give it nine months tops.

Is that the same Bell of Souls that was reporting as fact a 40k skirmish-based "Black Box" game for the autumn of last year?

Re: Dead Dwarf
Probably. As reliable a source for GW stuff as I know of though and I've seen this mentioned in a few seperate places today. I don't follow Granny news but this popped up on Facebook.Darkson wrote:Is that the same Bell of Souls that was reporting as fact a 40k skirmish-based "Black Box" game for the autumn of last year?
The details seem pretty specific and entirely believable (unlike those continuous FFG rumours) too, with some fairly good circumstantials as well.
BoLS do get some good insider stuff from other companies too FWIW.

Re: Dead Dwarf
Crikey. Though I'd be surprised given they've just redesigned the whole mag and sales were up. More likely to be an ADDITIONAL product.
I'd assumed everyone on TFF had long ago vowed on the graves of their ancestors never to buy another GW product again though, so not sure why anyone would care?

Re: Dead Dwarf
if I'm honest, it wouldn't make a difference to me if it goes. I haven't bought one in years. I look through it occasionally, but not playing 40K or WFB (or whatever game they're calling their #3 nowadays) there's very little in their I need. I can see the new figures online and the lack of articles for any other game makes it a pointless buy for me. I miss the WDs from the 100's era.
I will give them their production values though - always looks good, but for me it's all style over substance.
I'd love to see a general gaming magazine, like the defaunct Harbinger, with the production values of WD or the old GMI.
[Edit] Wow, talking of GMI for me looking at the old Newsfield magazines, like Crash for the Spectrum, which reminded me of Fear magazine, which lead me to find it's trying to make a comeback - http://fearmagazine.businesscatalyst.com/

It's been a glorified catalogue for years though their proposal to add minor armies (like SoB and Squats) was an interesting idea which seems yet to pan out.

I get thr impression that they want to release the same stuff in a different way to pump more money from the gullible.
standard GW policy that innit?

Re: Dead Dwarf
GW has known the power of viral advertising since I was there. Most rumours leaked are deliberate.
Every once in a while I see something that smacks of a false rumour. The get out to find out who is talking without permission.
The 40k rumour struck me as such. We'll see about this in time.

Re: Dead Dwarf
WFB has had a decent resurgence at my gaming club over the last year or so - they seem to love 8th ed. We're getting new people join the club regularly and they all seem to want to play Fantasy.
I was semi-tempted myself back in August. I was on holiday and bought a White Dwarf just so I had something to read. I liked the look of some of the Lizardman new releases - then saw the price tags for them. Sanity prevailed...
