Best unskilled lineman move you ever saw?
Over the last few tourneys I've been playing the rats and on several occasions there's been the games where my Claw/MB Rat Ogre can't hurt a fly but and unskilled linerat or a sans-block thrower straight up murderises some fool. Previously I've had games with the Dwarfs where a Longbeard dances a merry jig around my opposition and picks up the ball with ease when my Runners have apparently been smearing their gloves with butter.
So thought it would be fun to hear some more anecdotes about the times your positionals/stars were utterly hopeless and one of your poor old lino's have had to show 'em how it's done.

Re: Best unskilled lineman move you ever saw?
One time my amazon team did quiet a nice play. other team had the ball about two squares from their TD zone, I blitz a linewoman that had to make two dodges against 2 tackle zones to make it, just to get there for a double dice their choice. She made the dodges got double Pow! knocking the ball loose, so of course i might as well try to pick it up ..... and she does then dodges 1 space out to get into clearing. next turn, other guys blitzes my line woman to get a double skull injuring himself. line woman runs the ball over to a catcher who continues up field with it to make a short pass to another catcher and then scores. All thanks to that brave linewoman.

Well, this one wasn't with a lineman, but since it was an unskilled Minotaur (as far as they can be "unskilled"), I suppose it may somehow fit in here...
I was playing Chaos Pact against a regular league mate (playing skaven).
There was a big brawl in the middle of one of his sidelines, and after a successful blitz he managed to knock out my marauder ball carrier. The ball went loose, and he managed to pick it up and dodge out to go for the pass.
As expected, he had a couple of GR surgically placed in order to do the "pass-hand-off-TD" routine, and the only player of my team in his way was my unskilled minotaur (he didn't had any MA left to avoid it), and as he declared the pass with his thrower, I declared the intercept attempt!
Not only the mino made the interception, he also 'decided' to blitz the skaven thrower the next turn, causing a Cas, and successfully made one necessary Go-For-It to make a TD.
In one single play the guy managed to get enough SPP's for his first skill (he still was on "zero SPP's" after 4 or 5 games...).

This story comes second-hand, so loses a little punch, but a friend in my league told me how his Snotling killed Count Luthor, who double-skulled, broke his own armor and died. Even though he didn't throw the block himself, that's one awesome Snotling!

I was on the receiving end of a three dice uphill block from a fling against an ogre with the ball. He had to gfi twice (in a blizzard) and then got the necessary triple pow. Ogre was injured. That cost me the game and the stunty cup

Re: Best unskilled lineman move you ever saw?
I had a gobbo lying inside my opponents Orc cage after he had fouled him and failed to break his Av. I repositioned my team and realised I hadn't blitzed...3 die uphill ( thanks to his 2 guard black Orcs) and I called " 2 POWs & a dodge star " moved the dice cup to reveal ,2 dodge stars and a POW! At this point I actually thought the Orc coach was going to punch me, the dice had really been that one sided. The ball of course went off to be thrown on 1 square in front of my only other gobbo who was yet to take an action, 3+ pickup and run out of range of the Orcs to secure a 3-0 victory.
I still maintain that the victory was due in part to his models being on square bases....

unless they're borrowed! borrow an Ogre on a square base from opponent at gaming night and you watch it not be boneheaded once, take out key players and setup team for first ever win!Axtklinge wrote:

I had a star witch elf (+ST, +AG and block) killed outright by a 2d uphill block from an unskilled High Elf lineman. That was back in the days when the apoth was a 2+ roll and I duly rolled a 1.

Wasnt there once an instance at a tournament where the only player in range of your ball carrier was a goblin fanatic as well.....? how did that go again??Spiky wrote:I had a star witch elf (+ST, +AG and block) killed outright by a 2d uphill block from an unskilled High Elf lineman. I had a zon blitzer with sure hands and fend killed by a snotling uphill 3d block. 3 pows and I cried a little inside and out. Was at the latest speedbowl against the all snotling team coached by bigbelcher.

I didn't do the play, but i witnessed it.
Last turn of the match, my friend's ogres vs. chaos dwarf. A dwarf has the ball.
An ogre throws a snotling, it lands correctly. The amazing little wonder blitzes the dwarf, 3 straight POW's. Then the little mucky boy grabs the ball, gfi twice and scores the winning TD.
This next saturday he comes to play in our local tourney with ogres. All of us are scared....

Re: Best unskilled lineman move you ever saw?
Yeah, ya know I will bust yer chops and call BS on elf examples... technically unskilled, yes... but really a 5+6 skill choice above "unskilled" linemen....
These examples all come down to luck but, sure, I will share:
Turn 16 of a tie game, necros vs whatever and the ball is on the ground, nominally out of range of all my players, and at the foot of the enemy! My noob zed dodges away, makes two gfis to the ball, picks up in a tackle zone, throws a long pass in said tackle zone, avoids the interception attempt, and his noob zombie brother catches the ball to shamble in for the win....
Of course, for this one crumb of BB goodness in the last 20+ years, Nuffle exacts blood vengeance upon me every weekend....
On the other side of the equation: 3d Wight vs Snot, Triple Skulls, Injury + 58!!!
