Re: Fummbl or cyanide
I've been playing table top, Cyanide and recently also Fumbbl. As people before said, neither Cyanide nor Fumbbl are easy for newcomers that are not aware of the rules. The good thing about Cyanide is though, that all skills are explained ingame. On the other hand, Fumbbl is closer to the correct rules and explains the outcome of the dice better.
Cyanide does have the better graphics. This is not only nice because we all like to look at shiny things. It also makes the gameplay easier. You can easily tell apart a skilled saurus from a rookie saurus, since armor gets fancier with every skill level. There is also no hectic clicking at the beginning of the match to mark the AG4 leaping werewolf. People told me Fumbbl matches would be quicker than Cyanide games. That's not really my experience. In both games matches typically last 1h. While there are some really fast coaches. most of them play at a slower pace. Most Cyanide matches are played at a 2min turn, and there is less clicking during the game, which makes up for some of the time spent to animations.
Fumbbl is way more stable and allows to finish matches that had been interrupted at a later point. Cyanide doesn't. On the other hand, depending what your playing hours are, you will easier find an opponent on Cyanide when on Fumbbl. This is true for late evenings North American times.
Finally, if you come from the table top scene and are a dedicated Slann or Chaos Pact player: These races don't exist in Cyanide, as several star players. There is the infamous Khorne team though.
Tl;dr: Both have advantages and disadvantages. But there is no reason for you to play only one of them. I do both. Cyanide does cost an initial few bucks, but access to the servers is free.

Dont agree at all with stimme
I have found nothing positive to say about cyanide, You can argue the graphics are nice but you also get with that players hiding behind bigger players and this combined with the aweful auto move your turn will end on first action as sods law your AG 1 player will attempt a dodge.
Bugs been around since what 5 years ago!! hardly any star players!
Oh and people disconnecting just because you killed there legend player!!
Matches on cyanide takes for ever, christ i used there new speccing function and it took what seemed like a life time them setting up so i just left the game, oh may i add it takes about 5 minutes to enter and leave speccing mode.
Now FUMBBL
It has every single star player it uses special play cards (Magic only at the moment) If you find a bug report it and in the next client update you can bet they would of fixed it.
Some one disconnects on you you will get a win and them a lose also they will be warned and banned if they carry on doing this.
Auto move 100% better
You can spec like cyaninde but it takes 30 seconeds to load client up to watch you can also boo cheer and a number of other sounds
one major game had over 80 people watching it and when they all cheer at same time it sounded awesome.
stimme said you have to rush to mark players on FUMBBL no you dont you can take as long as you want!!
Game play is easier on FUMBBL as you can lable yours or your opponents players what ever you like.
I have play a game on FUMBBL in 38 minutes i would love to see a game on cyanide taking less that 1 hour 10.
Thats my opinions and being a massive blood bowl fan for almost 20 years i would only ever play on the better version plus cyanide/focus do not give a damn about its customers just ask some one who owns the game on a console, utter disgrace how they delt with that!!!

Re: Fummbl or cyanide
While I don't agree 100%, I agree a lot with what Bob says.
Also (I don't think anyone's mentioned this) Cyanide/Focus are due to deliver BB2 at some point (no dates given yet), and as normal, getting news from them is like getting a decent price drop from Granny. Because there's no news, no one has any idea whether it will be another turn-based effort (perhaps leading to the closure of the old servers) or something different.
So I'd say give FUMMBL a go, and if you can find CE (or LE) on a sale ($5 or $10) give it a try. Until they release more news I wouldn't pay full whack.

Re: Fummbl or cyanide
I play Cyanide occasionally as an exercise in team building and because I'm an antisocial sod at times.
I don't play FUMBBL anymore because...well...I couldn't be arsed in the end to be honest. I am not a fan of the open play and I couldn't commit to the requirements for leagues any more.
FUMBBL is superior to me in every single way, except it lacks a single player AI. It could be argued that Cyanide also lacks an AI, as the one there is is terrible. I can see how its one tactic could frustrate people (breaking a nine man cage isn't always easy) but really, its rubbish.

Re: Fummbl or cyanide
I play purely table top and on cyanide. yes it has it's many, many, many, many, problems.
But the community in general is a lot better than fummbl and not as elitist. Plus although the graphics aren't exactly crisis, far cry etc. They are still easier to recognise than most of the fummbl ones.
Having said that either get it on a steam sale or wait til bb2 comes out like Darkson said.

Also i think it is not mentionned that your PC configuration should be higher to run cyanide than fumbbl.
Also fumbbl can be played on linux, macos and windows, while i am not sure there is other than windows in the cyanide configration requirements (to be confirmed).

Re: Fummbl or cyanide
I prefer FUMBBL 100% over Cyanide. I LOVE the 80s-style 8-bit looking graphics. Simple, memorable and to the point. The Cyanide graphics are too busy and leads to multiple mouse misclicks - at least for me.
Plus, you don't beat free.

Re: Fummbl or cyanide
Would it be redundant to say I prefer FUMBBL?
I much prefer the top down icon view. Much more like TT, even though I never get to play TT anymore. I just can't see what is going on in Cyanide, there are too many silly repetitive animations and players hiding behind others.
Not sure why some say the community at FUMBBL is elitist...
I have had almost no issues. I have run into at least one real idiot who I will avoid at all costs, but after so many games and so long on the site the ratio is almost perfect. The biggest no-no is to call out admins, just contact them personally and they will listen to you and try and sort things fairly, especially if you are new. Go on the attack on the forums and you may get a rough ride. Pretty par for the course for most sites I believe.
Also, FUMBBL has STUNTY LEEG! Fifteen (16 soon) unique Stunty teams all playing in their own division with their own major tournaments. This division is all about fun and mayhem. You should really check it out for a fun & fast game.
So, jump in and have fun.
P.S. Those icons are so awesome!*
* I love sprites, and I might be a BIT biased.

Re: Fummbl or cyanide
I can't honestly say I prefer one over the other. I play Cyanide almost exclusively, but that's because the league I'm in (OCC) is a lot of fun with a lot of great people. I have played on Fummbl and the fact that a free site managed to do what Cyanide couldn't (ie, full teams, rules working, etc) gives it a slight edge in what I would describe as pure Blood Bowl experience. Haven't played a match there in quite some time but still spectate on there from time to time.

If someone only has the dark elf version of BB (not the other editions) can they still play in leagues with people using the other rosters?

No. You need LE or CE to play them. I don't think online DE is supported at all any more.Indigo wrote:If someone only has the dark elf version of BB (not the other editions) can they still play in leagues with people using the other rosters?
