Advice for oldies

Post by Mestari »

Hi,

I've been thinking of running a "for old-times sake"-BB-tournament for some selected friends. My question is: is there any reason to check up on latest rules/teams etc. over just playing with the rules we had in around 2005?

If you only plan on playing occasionally, with the same group of people, then if you're happy with those rules no there's not.
If you expect/hope to get back into playing more in the "wider" world, then yes.

2005 isn't "old", try second or first edition! ;)

The changes from 2005 are mostly skill and roster tweaks, not much in the way of fundamental changes to the mechanics.

If you haven't played for 8 years, I'd just skip to the current ruleset. You'll be re-learning anyway and the current ruleset is generally considered to be far superior to 3rd edition / deathzone.

As Darkson says though, if it's just a small group with no intention to play against the wider BB community, you can do whatever you like.

There should be a link somewhere with all the rules over the years......

Darkson, Thadrin, voyagers_uk, princelucianus: nice to see that you're still around! I'm doing fine: done my degree, working full-time on a PhD, got two active little boys plus coaching part time. So I have no trouble filling my hours with interesting activities...

Darkson: sure, I did like the ruleset we had at the time, but wanted to ask in case you'd say something along the lines of "oh, the 16th edition ruleset, especially with the snotlings only rule is much more fun and engaging, best BB has ever been".

Wylder: you are implying that I have forgotten something. I take no offense, but I can assure you that you are mistaken.

But it might be fun to try out the latest ruleset, if I get around to actually getting a tournament organised. Assuming the ruleset is freely available and I don't need to buy new boards, different looking block dice or anything.

Nope, still very much the game you remembered, just tweaks and mechanics changes - the board and dice are the same.

CRP (Competition Rules Pack) available [currently] from GW: http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_Cus ... _Rules.pdf
3 additional BBRC approved teams: http://www.thenaf.net/files/NewTeams_LRB6.pdf

Link to LRB6, which is how the BBRC intended the CRP to look like (with all the fluff etc) before GW hacked it up: http://d01.megashares.com/dl/BWKzaJf/LRB6_Handbook.pdf
