Do you position the pitch?
When you set up your pitch, do you play with one person at one end zone, and the other at the other end zone? I have seen this in the rules as the offical wau to play, but our group has always played sideline to sideline. I think it gives you easier access to the entire board. This may have happened to our group because we have been playing since 2nd edition, and thats the way our first commissioner did it.
So, how do you guys play?

i'd noticed the same thing... what's most remarkablke is that it works so often, that as long as your defensive setup is in a pattern that looks balanced, you can count on it working... even if the defensive personel are distributed so that you have a clear advantage in specific quality to that side....Pariah wrote:I noticed an odd thing about sidline play...(shhh don't tell your opponent) It seems that when a coach is going to take the wide zone route he will often take the widezone nearest to himself. Must be a psychology thing.

We play sidelines, but only because the table we play on is too long to play end to end. I've played both, and prefer end to end, as it gives the game that chess feel (or as someone else said, offensive/defensive feel), but I have played games where I will actually walk around the board to get a look at everything before I make my move, so either way works fine for me.

I've played both ways and prefer sideline play for easier access to the pieces. On League Night we end up playing endzones, in order to fit two games per table. But I've noticed that the board is a little longer than these tables are wide, so sometimes a coach can cause an "earthquake" taking his hands out of his lap as he starts his turn. Always a bummer.
