Team Names...

Post by Smurf »

Apart from bad puns such as Reptile Dysfunction and Sewer Sides or mixing up NFL teams with more puns. Do you guys have a list of names for various teams?

Reason: ''
The Scrumpers (Wood Elf)
Gitmo (Chaos Dwarves)
Sheik Ya Bouti (Khemri)
Fast and Furry (Skaven)
The Disposables (Halflings)

I usually follow a rule: Warhammer location followed by American Football/UK football suffix, ie:

Bogenhafen Stanley (Human)
Lahmia Orient, Mahrak Cardinals (Khemri)
Gorgoth Boilermakers (Chaos Dwarves)
Inevitable City Chiefs (Nurgle)
Winterpyre Wolverines (Norse)
Barliton Titans (Halfling)
etc.

...you sometimes have to go a long way down the American Football "pyramid" to find the right one, but they are all there. Not particularly amusing, but I like the consistency and it is good for writing fluff.

Humans: Albion Lions, Reikland Emperors, Middenheim Kings
Dwarf: Roystone Riders, Bugmans Brewers
Chaos: Darkstars
Dark Elves: Talos Talons, Har Ganeth Executioners
Necromantic: Universal Horrors, Mordheim Fear
Vampires: Sylvanian Darklords, Nachthaften Nightlords, Nighthaunters, Drakenhof Immortals
Amazon: Jozco Jaguars
Lizardmen: Lustria Coldbloods

Mostly they have fluff and history built around them about where they come from, the coach etc.

my favourite one I saw on the forums was a skaven team called - The Sewer Side Bombers! inspired!

I tend to base my team names around the teams I support.
My pro elves are always called Oakglade Reavers and my dwarves usually Hammerton Academical.

Others I've considered using in the past are:
Lothangelus Reavers (woodies), Tor Onthas Aeronauts (high elves), New Ork Emperors (betcha can't guess...), Lab Animal Ratters (skaven).

There's probably more I've forgotten about as well, but the first two are the ones I still use over and over.

Some of mine are shameless NFL rip-offs:

Green Bay Smackers (Orc)
Croakland Waders (Slann)

A couple are based on the fact I support West Brom:

West Porridge Albatross (Halfling)
Albion Baggies (Human)

But most are just names that I thought sounded appropriate:

Muddy Funsters (Goblin)
Lava Lumps (Chaos Dwarf)
Unaccompanied Miners (Dwarf)
Urskogen Arboreals (Wood Elf [Kroot])
Steaming Puffins (Underworld)

What's the point of coming up with Blood Bowl team/player names if a pun isn't involved somewhere? 8)

I have a mix, often the name is a play on a conversion theme, but some are more warhammerish fluff.

Dark Elves - National Disaster (was a delf/ork mixed race team decades ago when they had that sort of thing)

Norse - Andre the Giant has a Posse (80's wrestlers, would not qualify as 'fluffy')

Halfling - New England Pastrychefs (nfl parody)

Undead - Ghouls Gone Wild (50s beach theme with Alice Cooper and Elivs wights..)

Orks - Arkham Assasins (human proxy team, it's got cool minis, clear positionals...some converted/painted 20 years ago some recent.. but a mess fluffwise to be sure.. working on a new "proper" ork team for NATC, and it will not be wfb-fluffy either)

Nurgle - the Stank

Chaos Pact - Chaos Also-Rans

Necromantic - It Came From the Late Late Late Show (greyscale mgm-movie themed team, named after a great rpg)

Later next year I want to make a biker themed chaos dwarf team Sons of Achondroplasy, and a lizardman team Lucha Lize.

Not terribly fluffy in a 'you might run into these guys in a warhammer fantasy roleplay game' way, but I have fun with them.

Well being a non-US citizen and non-WF player I don't even try to use real-life teamnames nor Warhammer references.

What I like most is making up a teamname around a theme and naming the players accordingly. This is usually hard work but Wikipedia can help you out a lot!

Ra's Toughfari Khemri, players all named after Caribbean countries but written wrong: Toh-Bah-Goh, Bon Err, Treeh-Neeh-Dadd.

Game Ain't Based On Sympathy Orcs, with all quite sympathetic names like Harmony, Compassion, Warmth, Understanding.

Yersin Jersies Skaven, all named after scientists affiliated or somehow connected to the discoverer of the bacillus responsible for the bubonic plague like Kitasato, Pasteur, Roux, von Behring.

Wrapped Superstars Khemri, named after Cypress Hill's Rap Superstar, all players of course named after rappers/groups (some good, some not so hehe): Ol' Mummy Bastard, Bone Blitz 'n Harmony, Del the Funky Mummy, Big Mummy Kane etc.

Dark Delft Dark Elf, named after my hometown Delft and matching the racename quite nicely. Players unrelated yet all named after dutch sailers involved in the Raid on the Medway, not the Battle of Midway.

Naming the team and players is half the fun!
