I agree with axiom on both points.

Re: Willy-miniatures: pag 36 ( "Sara" woman star player )
there's a very fine line between an "homage" and a rip-off..
until recently I found most of the Willy models to be excellent and of a suitably original nature to not bother me.. but the last couple of minis have crossed over the fine line IMHO.

I agree with Norse's cat.

It is a good model. This is a similar one?

Arm is different, head looking another way and not wearing a helmet. Cannot see what you are getting at myself.

Re: Willy-miniatures: pag 36 ( "Sara" woman star player )
fair points Heff - seeing the two side by side it's not quite as similar as I remembered. still "heavily influenced by" I think, but maybe suitably different to not be an issue..
I think it was seeing the obvious prince moron copy and then the Zara/Sara that made me quizzically raise an eyebrow..
not to mention the ogre *coughMorg* which Pedro seems to be working on right now, and which I expect will also find it's way into the Willy catalogue..

Holy smokes! Some one has already painted one up!?! That is some fast shipping and painting.Chris wrote:It is a good model. This is a similar one?
Oh wait...

Personally, I am inclined to agree with Norse. However, I take a slightly more ambivolent approach in that I might not necessarily agree with it but I will (and think we all should) leave it to Willy to determine how far he can push that line before he is dealing with the repercussions of his decissions. I think a large part of the concern from the community is going to be that so many people like what Willy has to offer that they would hate to see him potentially damaged by something like this. The Thrud head and now this....I don't know. You obviously do very beautiful work. Please be careful.

I like the sara model, looks much better than the Granny one, but the pose and cross and other things are just too similiar. I still want to see more stars that don't have a model yet, Hemlock and others rather that redos of older models.

Willy does have some beautiful minis. The frustrating thing is that there are gaps in the Fantasy Football canon where there are no or few miniatures currently available, and it would be nice to see, for example, a Footbally Fezglitch or an Ithaca Benoin, rather than producing copies/homages of existing miniatures?

one other observation.. is it just me or are none of the minis which have balls actually carrying the ball very well? Sara seems to be carrying it like a waitress carrying a plate, Moranion is carrying the ball in such a way that it could fall out without even needing to be hit..
Willy, tell your sculptor(s) to use images of how RBs actually secure the ball, especially those RBs who are known NOT to fumble (off the top of my head, Frank Gore is a good example)...

Not just you, and not just this mini. This has bugged me for years... is it just me or are none of the minis which have balls actually carrying the ball very well?
Obviously there are compromises that need to be made in fantasy football miniature poses due to casting and scale, but I would say that most figures sculpted as ball carriers aren't carrying the ball properly. Whatever the manufacturer, the ball is often over-sized and is carried under the arm at it's centre of gravity. Rugby players do something a little similar, as they hold it so that's it's available to pass underarm to a teammate, but gridiron ball carriers tend to have it wedged in close to the body with fingers close to, at or over the nose of the ball, to stop it popping out when defenders make contact.
It leads to the other (lesser) question regarding balls - why are there so few thrower sculpts that look like they are throwing a ball. 5th ed humans, 2nd ed skaven are about it for granny - the amazons have one that has the pose about right, although everything else about it is just awful. Any others?
Rant over.

I just mentioned the way Moranion is carrying the ball, last page.
I don't see an issue with the "homage" sculpts. GW isn't updating them, so if another company wants to take the risk to produce them, more power to them.

A far bigger concern than then the look is the scale...

This is not the second girl running with the ball, there is at least one more (or two, if you count the less armoured version, by H too). Rugby grab and without stakes, but otherwise the pose is becoming a classic.
This Sara has a too big strong jaw and doped lips, lets hope it's just the photo.
