Trust me. After just a little playetesting I can see that the goblins are no threat to anyone. In 5 games I can't even count how many times my goblins were left unprotected because stupid ogres failed their bonehead rolls. In all my games the goblins seldom made it to the 2nd half.

I agree with Pariah. In our 2nd playtest game I picked on the gobbo's at every oppotunity, leaving the Orges trying to pick up the ball with AG2 at best.

Code: Select all

0-12 Ogre Blocker 4 5 1 9 Really Stupid, Mighty Blow 90k st
0-4 Ogre Blitzer 5 5 2 9 Bonehead, Mighty Blow, TTM 120k gen,st
0-4 Goblin Catcher 6 2 3 7 Dodge, Stunty, Right Stuff 40k, agility
Rerolls: 90K (can be used freely for everyone)
The MA of the goblins was wrong in the previous post of mine. But anyhow, this is currently the team that I'd support.

Me too, I only have one minor contention.
I would remove mighty blow from the blockers, give them thick skull and drop them to 80K

I would agree with Pariah's suggestion, these are supposed to be different types of ogres and they all don't need to start with MB (the blockers aren't supposed to be as good as the blitzers and they can pick up MB in their first skill upgrade).

So, let me sum up what we all seem to be saying:

Ogre Blockers are good at ST5 if they also have Really Stupid.
Goblins should be limited to 4.
Ogre Blitzers should have stats similar to Ogres seen on other teams, and be limited to 4.

That gives the Ogre team 8 "quality" players, and 8 on-pitch liabilities.

What we're still undecided on is:

Should Blockers have Mighty Blow?
Should the Ogres have Big Guy?
Should Blockers have Throw Teammate?

We're still looking for feedback on these issues, so anyone who hasn't joined in yet is still welcome to do so. For those who already have, let me ask if any of the undecided points are issues which would dramatically affect your support for the team? If not, then I can take the list to the BBRC and hash all that out.

I'd leave MB off the blockers to begin with, let them earn it if they can. Have to think through the other 2 undecided questions Milo posed. :smoking:

No TTM on blockers, they are supposed to be the linemen of the ogre team so just keep it on the blitzers. Still undecided on the BG question, if people aren't in favour of giving BG to all the ogres, I would suggest still putting them on the blockers.

I don't know if blockers should have TTM or not. With RS and AG 1 they won't be anymore effective at it than trolls but it's always a possibilty that they can pull it off.

As for Big Guy...I assume you are talking about the use of rerolls. I think it depends on the cost of the reroll. Put the cost at 90 or 100K and I say, "Sure!" at 70K, no way! Playtesting should be able to give a better perspective on these issues in just a few games games.

Blockers are supposed to be the lumbering oafs (biceps for brains), from what I can see, so I've come round and believe that they shouldn't get TTM. 1 question for me to work through.

Should Blockers have Mighty Blow
Yes. With Very stupid, only few "herders" around and no block they'll advance really slowly. MB gives them at least a fighting chance of becoming something in the long run.

Should the Ogres have Big Guy?
No. Fluffwise: they are now in a familiar environment, not surrounded by lot smarter creatures. With sufficiently high (90K) reroll cost this will not cause a balance problem either.

Should Blockers have Throw Teammate?

No.

Addendum:
All ogres should have Thick Skull.

My 5 cents:

1. It'd be better for fluff and consistency, but I'd lean for a no anyway. If it turns out that the team was too underpowered, they could be given MB at a later rules review.
2. Yes - among other reasons, for consistency. Not sure whether BG & 40k RR or Not BG & 90k RR would be the stronger combo though.
3. No, it seems like a skill you need to actually use your brain to do... :D

To me, any team that isn't fully competitive is fine. If this can be done with no ST4 Ogres that's great. I think your roster might just accomplish that, Milo.

One fourth issue: Should Ogre Blockers get Gen skills? I'd say no, for both fluff and powering reasons.

Unless there is a more recent version of the LRB, Really Stupid States:
If there are one or more players from the same team standing adjacent to the really stupid player's square, and who aren't also really stupid, then add +2 to the dice roll.
This would mean the goblins and the blitzers (even bone-headed ones) could "herd" the blockers around. That being the case, I feel at a minimum, the blockers should have the Big Guy racial characteristic.

That's a good point, darthnoir. Of course, it could be argued that the current rules don't ever allow for a Bonehead player and a Really Stupid player to appear on the same team together, so there's some ammunition to make it "who aren't also really stupid or boneheaded".
