Re: Sidestep tutorial
Sidestep is a great defensive skill because you can choose where you go - any square you're touching - when you're pushed back (an/or knocked over).
You can use it to stand next to a different guy you want to block next turn, or to lie your prone body in exactly the wrong place for your opponent so they can't run through, or for you to lend an assist for another block elsewhere later in the opponent's turn, or in your next one, or just generally to be pushed where you want to.
It also (almost) entirely eliminates the risk of being pushed into the crowd, making it great for a wide zone patroller.
It also cancels out Grab, turning that into a normal pushback/knockover.
Works great in combination with any of Block, Dodge, Guard and Fend.

Re: Sidestep tutorial
A classic ploy is to stand next to the corner of your opponent's cage. Then if you opponent blocks the Side Stepper and doesn't knock him down (blodge is good here), you can move into his cage and next to his ball carrier.

Re: Sidestep tutorial
With sidestep, you can:
1) Still keep a tacklezone on a ballcarrier or other opposing player, which means still lending/negating assists too.
2) Keep within scoring distance if you're not knocked over
3) Lead frenzy players in a direction of your choosing.
4) Block a square to prevent opening a hole in your defense
Sidestep is a pain and can really cause a headache for your opponent and interfere with his blocking strategy.

is 1 sidestep really worth it or do you need a team that focusses on it ?

Re: Sidestep tutorial
Side step is like Guard. One is still good, but two is more than twice as good as one.

There are many threads that do in depth statistical analysis of that. Do a search...

Question about sidestep (and annoying flaw in cyanides blood bowl)
If a player is pushed into my sidestepper, then I can choose where he goes correct?
Senario in Cyanide BB:
BX
S
BWO
B
My ogres vs Chaos: My (O)gre hits and pushes the Chaos (W)arrior into my (S)notling (the (B)eastmen are just standing there) the computer then makes my snot go into the stands rather than letting me choose to side step him to the X position that is open. He was carrying the ball and it made me loose my one opportunity for a TD that turn.
Is should have been able to side step him to the X correct even if he was not taking the block directly but merely part of a chain push.

Re: Sidestep tutorial
Right as far as I can tell.... Cyanide gotcha!
********************
Sidestep, backed by diving tackle, makes for a bad ass goblin/snotling....
Sidestep works nicely for a frenzier on the sidelines... turns the tables....
To get casualties, you must down your opponent.... Superior strength (with, or without, assists), block, frenzy, mighty blow, claw, piling on, tackle, diving tackle, prehensile tail, pro (others?), may come into the equation....
My opinion? If you are grooming one killer in isolation:
Block
Mighty Blow
Claw
Piling on
I work mostly with werewolves, so I start with claw, hope for doubles to get mighty blow, blodge, then sidestep.... I've never actually groomed one with piling on but I can see the reason to....
On the other hand, I have a warpstone troll that starts with mighty blow, and I will happily give him claws and piling on, only stopping for block on a doubles.... The wisest among us take guard first, though, on a wst....
