Eucalyptus Bowl 2011 - 6th/7th of August, Sydney Australia

Post by Virral »

Hi everyone,

I've been doing a lot of work behind the scenes over the past few weeks, gearing up for Eucalyptus Bowl 2011. I have a lot of exciting news for the event, including new sponsors and what I'd say is the best tournament giveaway pack this side of the World Cup. Here you'll find everything you need to know about the event, but keep an eye on this forum because there will be other news coming up over the next few weeks, including more information on prizes, giveaways and competitions in the lead up to the tournament.

And don't forget, you can also find everything you need to know right here on the Eucalyptus Bowl website!

What is it?

For those who aren't familiar with Eucalyptus Bowl, it was to the best of my knowledge the first Resurrection tournament run in Australia, a format that has now taken over pretty much across the country. Started by Doubleskulls and Chunky in 2005, myself and Rabid_Bogscum have also helped run the event in the past. This year I'll be doing the honours, and I hope to make it the best Eucalyptus Bowl yet. Last year we had 58 coaches and one of the tightest competitions in memory for the top spot, with four coaches finishing with a 4-2-0 record, so I've set myself a tough goal to say the least!

We will be playing 6 games over 2 days, using the CRP Rules and 1.25 mil teams (including Slann, Underworld and Chaos Pact). Team Value includes players, rerolls, support staff, inducements (no special play cards) and skills (maximum of one per player, no doubles, no stat increases, no extra skills for star players). For full details and links to the CRP and additional team rules, please visit the Eucalyptus Bowl website.

When and where?

In 2011 the event is running on the 6th and 7th of August, at Burwood RSL. The venue has loads of parking, is fully licensed and is nearby cheap and convenient accommodation for interstate travellers. For more information, please visit the Eucalyptus Bowl website.

Free Gifts

Eucalyptus Bowl has a rich history of free gifts for players, and this year is our biggest yet. Each player who registers and pays before the 1st of June will receive a gift pack which will include a free limited edition "Combat Wombat" miniature produced by Greebo, a set of custom EB 2011 dice featuring the Eucalyptus Bowl Koala and another mystery gift I will reveal once I have pictures to show you... words alone cannot adequately describe how awesome it is! These gifts are all currently in production and I will update with images as soon as I have them.

Players who register AFTER the 1st of June will still receive a pack, however numbers are limited so there is a possibility that I will run out (it'll be first come, first served). The only way to absolutely guarantee yourself a pack is to register and pay before the 1st of June! If I have any packs left on the day, they will be available for sale at the event for cost price (approx $15 per pack) to help recoup costs. Any leftover packs after the event will be donated free of charge to other tournaments throughout the country as prize support.

Tickets costs and Registration

For players who register and pay before the 1st of June, tickets are $40 ($20 for a 1 day ticket). Players who register from the 1st of June onwards will pay $50 ($30 for a 1 day ticket).

As mentioned above, players who register and pay before the 1st of June will guarantee themselves a free gift pack, with any leftover packs being allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis to late registrations. Players who register for a 1 day ticket will NOT receive a full gift pack, however they will not leave empty handed... they will receive the mystery gift, and I am confident that they will not be disappointed (that's right, it's even better than the free mini!) Don't worry, it won't stay a mystery for long!

Please visit the Eucalyptus Bowl website to register. You will receive an email with payment options after registration, including Paypal and Direct Debit.

Grudge Matches and Teams

On the first day of play, you have the option to nominate members of your "team". You will not play anyone on your team during the first day, so if you have regular league mates at the event and you'd rather play someone new, this allows you to do it. On the second day however all bets are off and you may be matched up against someone in your team. We also run a hotly contested Best Team prize on the first day, with performance averaged out across everyone in your team... so sign up and prove your gaming group is the best out there!

We also give anyone who wants to play a Grudge Match that opportunity during the final game. Grudge matches must be agreed by both players and can only happen if neither of you are in medal contention. This is the only way that you can choose how you play.

Stunty King

Let's face it, we all love Stunty Coaches. They make us laugh, they make us cry... nothing is better than drawing Halflings while you're playing Dwarves... or more humiliating when they out Casualty you (that's right everyone, last year a Halfling team scored the most Casualties, be afraid!) At Eucalyptus Bowl we try to encourage these brave and suicidal coaches as much as possible, because they make the game more fun!

First, the top performing Stunty Coach (the Stunty King) gets fourth pick of the prize pool, immediately after third place. As anyone who has been to Eucalytpus Bowl before will tell you, that means they're going to get a pretty fantastic prize along with their trophy.

Second, we have a system in place where "weaker" teams are more likely to play other "weaker" teams of the same standing. So if you're a Stunty coach, you're more likely to play another Stunty team than someone, and that means more exciting, challenging games for you and less tackle-fests against Dwarves!

Teams who are eligible for the Stunty King prize are - Ogres, Goblins, Halflings, Lizardmen (without Saurus) and Underworld (without Skaven).

Any other questions?

Phew, that's all I can think of right now! If you've got any questions about the event, please let me know here or via PM. There is also plenty of detail about the schedule of the event, scoring systems and so forth on our Website, so don't forget to check that out too!

Over the next few weeks I'll be posting more about our sponsors, trophies, special prizes, group orders and other little surprises I have cooked up to make this an unmissable event. I really hope to see you there, it should be an amazing weekend!
