Re: WC II, Amsterdam
The method chose by the organizer is the more appropriate in the end.
In Italy as well there are more Teams than allocation, and everyone is proposing alternative methods... but unluckily they don't agree on that either. So I could present at least 4 to 5 different systems, but noone will agree totally on each one... and I'm talking only for the Italian community, let alone all the proposal that can arrive from all over the world!!!
So for everyone, just respect the hard work Dave, Lucy, Niels and the NAF are doing for the community, trying to get cheaper and bigger location, and spending time and resources for every NAF coaches, and just follow the organization rules.
Any change will disappoint someone, so, let's respect the hard work.
In 2015 anyone will have the opportunity to present his project (I know what I'm talking about, I was in the committe of the Italian proposal for hosting the NWC II ), for 2000+ players, so will be eligible to receive criticism from anyone else
See you in A'dam.
And btw, I don't really think NWC is meant for good coaches, or coaches who were there in 2007... is a big festival for everyone.

+1 for Deathwing's "this is crazy to just take first come first served when we say go"
Personally I have no suggestions for "best" way, but at least open the pre-reg for a week or two and then IF a country is oversubscribed then the organisers pick the allocation by lottery.
My two concerns are that I don't know how much I would be (potentially) signing up for or when I'd be required to pay it......

I totally agree with this proposal of having a week (or 2 days or 3 days or whatever but not a 5 minutes race) of pre-registration and then a lottery for oversubscribed countries. Furthermore, after this pre-registration time, if some countries are undersubscribed, it can offer more slots to oversubscribed countries.
I also agree that it would be fine to announce how much is it and when to pay it just before the 22 : if not, these pre-registrations won't be a real commitment.

I like my odds.lunchmoney wrote:I think the places should be choosen by;

add them together.
divide the total by the width of the sun.
add in the uncertain number.
multiply by Pi.
run that many number of hydrogen atoms around the LHC.
take the new number of atoms and divide by zero.
Whichever teams survives the ensuing universe melt can play

Ok, I mostly agree with the above.Pippy wrote:One nearby nation having lots of interested coaches shouldn't necessarily entail them getting more places than another. It wouldn't be fair for France to register 15+ teams at the outset if it meant taking places away from other nations.
It's clearly a tough job to divide places evenly and fairly based on the relevant factors e.g. previous participation / size of community. But I think Dave and co have done a good job with this.
As I understand it, if the allocation is not filled for each nation then further places may be available beyond the set limits. So if, for example, the UK doesn't use all of its 7 slots then perhaps the French may be able to include a 9th team etc.
However, it seems like the process for confirming the teams has been very poorly thought through with a very tight deadline and a nonsensical "log in during the middle of a working day" system for team entries. I'll wait and see how it turns out but so far this stage of the process has felt incredibly frustrating (and not because I'm short of team offers). I guess I'm just lucky I didnt book any plane tickets yet.
Sorry guys but

Re: WC II, Amsterdam
I think nobody is forgotting Dutch people hard work, Panico. At least not me.
I'm just suggesting or throwing couple of ideas that I think will improve the NAF WC, maybe not now, but in the future. First served way I think is not fair for nobody. As said, your connexion and occupation is getting you advantadge. Stupid, maybe, but that's it.
I'm also afraid about how it will go wed at 14:00 with dozens of people trying to post a reply at the same time...
And finally I think is fair to disagree and just express an opinion about a situation that, by the way, is involving me.
Hope I will get a place. I want to enjoy NAF WC. And thanks for your work, guys.
That's it. No more posts for me here...

I would look at the NAF site. There are some vivid topics around the WC.

Oh you know what...
Lucy and Dave (and Niels, of course), I'll check there.
I'd rather have you guys spend time in finding solutions/possibilities for all those coaches/teams that want in, and making sure everything is well organized.
So far, well done.
keep it up !
