Slightly On Topic, but sort of off... I reported somebody & provided negative feedback with the reason of counterfiet goods on a DVD purchase on E-Bay, E-bay don't seem to care as long as they get their money off the top. Same guy was selling the same fake copy of the dvd again the next week...

What is the legal aspect of recasts?
It's not illegal to recast a figure for your own personal use (not where I live at least) but how about selling them as long as you are clear that they are recasts? I guess your breaking the copyrigt of the producer?

The last. You cannot legally profit from other's IP without permission.

Since I'm not the owner of the original ... I would have no legal purpose to buy it.

However on the other thread about this figure on TFF it was established that the seller who is not selling re-cast version gave back all the money so that the figure only cost the buyer $50.00 ... I doubt this re-caster was so generous.

They may be of a higher quality, but the other guy is still selling re-casts and profiting from something he doesn't own the IP for. I applaud him for refunding money on auctions after deciding to sell them with a lower BuyItNow price, but I think it's a stretch to call it generosity when he has set that price at $50 USD for a single miniature which he has the means to mass produce.

It was inevitable that this recasting would happen, it's a hotly demanded mini and a decision has been made to limit supply and keep prices high which leaves things wide open for unscrupulous types to produce inferior recasts of the figures and make a mint.

To be fair, these were not listed until after that other auction ended, I don't believe any other Zugs were listed while this recasted one was up on eBay.
