Exiles 3: Rise of the Cheerleaders. 10/sep/11 VMCAT WINS

Post by lunchmoney »

After what's happened between me and GW upper management (which I am not going to vent about on forum, if you really want to know I'll tell you in person) I will be running "Exiles Open 3, I Still Know What You Did To Get Revenge On The Stranger Who Returned From The Galaxy Far Far Away" No it's now "Exiles 3: Rise of the Cheerleaders".

It will be in September, second weekend again. But this now depends on finding a location, negotiating cost and a bunch of other stuff.

I know it's still a year away but I thought I'd get it down that I will be doing it again :)

As the GW store has a new area manager I entered discussions with him about hosting again. We have reached an accord and the event will be held at GW Poole again.

10/11th September 2011.
Doors open for registration at 10.00 on Saturday, round 1 to start no later than 11.00.

Cost is £12 in advance, £14 on the day. If you have never been a NAF member before I will cover the cost for your first years membership.
Payment can be made to me in person, if you happen to see me at any other event over the summer, or via Paypal (this preferred) to alec.dj@googlemail.com
Please mark your paypal as a personal gift, else Paypal swipe a percentage. And that's very annoying.
Please also note your name, NAF name and that the money is for an Exiles Open Ticket. Else I might just think you are being nice and giving me money :)

To celebrate the Rise of the Cheerleaders we have a give away model this year of an Exiles Cheerleader, sculpted by our very own Tankface.
And any coach that attends either one or both days dressed as a cheerleader receives a bonus. (And no one, not even the Missus, will know what it is until the day ;))

Final rules now attached (note there are no changes to the rules from the draft, but have added the venue and cost etc)

Confirmed and paid;

OK in my hunt for a venue I have found a place that is very reasonable in rates, good parking, access to a bar, is easy on the wheel chair access and is within a 15 minute walk (at my pace, maybe 20 for normal people) of a train station. So that might be sorted. (It's also 5-10 min walk to my favourite indian restaurant, so the saturday night meal should be sorted as well)

But they did ask if I would like lunch sorted for all attendees on both days? Now this is a good question. The ticket price is most likely going up to cover cost of venue or the prize fund will be severly reduced. (And I was rather proud of being a cheap event that offered good prizes.) Now add in a luncheon and the cost will go up again.

I dont know how much the rise would be, as I dont yet know how much they would charge per head or what would be on the menu, but what I'm basically trying to ask is; would people be willing to have lunch on both days included in the ticket price?

Thats ok Al, we all know how cheap you are....

Seems theres a growing trend of Tourneys with food included in the ticket price (White Ilse/Scrumpy/Spiky Ect) and I thinks it a great idea.

It spreads the cost, pay up front and you need less money for the actual weekend, and keeps the "atmosphere" going rather than everyone disappearing for an hour in the middle of the day. (it also means I dont have to travel to find food!!)

it does of course come down to value for money (hey I was born in Yorkshire)

So thats a provisional yes from me... :D

On the subject of prizes....Not tournament will ever be considered to have good prizes until it offers the legendary 4th place prize :|

I'm not fussed about prizes. It's nice to have trophies for the winners, but I don't see the need for prizes. I like the idea of food being included, but it does depend on the overall cost. I would like tourneys to cost as little as possible.

I agree with Glow. If food's taken care of (and you pay up front, not on the day) it makes the tourney seem cheaper because you don't need as much money for the weekend.. Also more fun to discuss how good/bad your game was and have some banter with other coaches all together over lunch.
It's an idea that's Full of Win :-) (Unless it's sprouts for lunch, then it could be an idea that's full of wind!!)

Seeing as I run a tourney where food won't be included (unless you expect me to cook for you, and I don't dislike any of you enough to do that!), I don't care either way, as long as if there isn't food, there's plenty of places to get it nearby.

Food included is great but not essential if theres plenty to get easily nearby (we do food at the CC but its in the middle of nowhere nearest place to get food for a reasonable price is kfc 5 miles down the road)

prizes are also not essential most of us come for the BB and to socialise not to walk away with arms full of stuff

OK people, I've attached the first draft rules pack. It hasnt got a venue on it, still negotiating that, but the rules should be as stated there.

6 games, random draw on round 1, then swiss draw.
TV115, all 24 teams.
Team must have 11 players before buying Stars.
Full inducements again.
Skill progression; assign 6 skills to 6 different players. One skill can be a doubles choice. Label 3 normal skills "day one". These skills are in use on day one for all three games. All 6 skills in use for day two.
