Screwed Up WE Catcher

Post by Amon242 »

I took Pass Block as my first skill with my WE Catcher; he then proceeded to roll +Ma, Side Step and now has rolled doubles. I can't make him a 1-turn scorer, as I have Pass Block and need to use him on Defense, where he would be an instant target in a bash heavy league. I feel as if I've made some mistakes on his progression, and now that I've rolled doubles I'm not sure what to take. Any suggestions?

I would go with block. Sidestep will immediately become much more useful. Leap is a real consideration in the future, as it would be difficult to get anywhere and be safe with him on the pitch.

Nerves of Steel! It makes him even better interceptor as now he can get the TZ on someone and still intercept on 5+.

I agree with Ian. (How many times do I end up saying that on this board?) NoS is a superb skill and this is definitely the guy to take it with.

Also, remember that with a stat increase you don't have to take the increase, so you could have used the +1MA to give you Dodge or Block instead.

   That is a pretty good suggestion, and it would really help on offence. Guess that's why I don't play Elves...

Don't pass up NoS. As a trait, you need the doubles you just rolled since you might not get another set.

I was thinking Shadowing or Tackle...then I saw suggestions of NoS...and they are SO right.

Well, ok, everyone seems to favor Nerves of Steel and it in fact IS a good choice! However, you might as well consider Dauntless. Having additional movement makes you reach even farther spots to blitz the enemy ball carrier. You have to get block next, though. Depends on whether you think, you can get your next increase in time for it to work.

Then again, take Nerves of Steel and you are on the safe side.

Dauntless would be a very good choice normally. However he already has +MA, Pass Block and Side Step. NoS is a more complementary skill, especially since his next skill is very probably Sprint.

Dauntless would work much better if he had either fewer skills (so could easily get more) or already had Block.

Well, I guess it´s rather a matter of taste. Not having Block is probably the best argument against Dauntless, so I can´t disagree with anyone arguing that way. Still, I don´t believe Dauntless is a waste. That +MA rather works in conjunction with blitzing (longer range, which player would be safe?). And pass block is a good addition, too. It actually makes him quite versatile.

Anyway, due to that missing block skill (and strip ball probably), it might as well be NoS. It also depends on what the other catchers look like.

At least, turning him into a one-turner would definitely waste pass block and side step, as he´d never be on pitch on defense ...

Fronko.

I have been lucky enough to roll +ST on my other living Catcher(after taking block), so I do have a long distance blitzer. My other Catcher is a rookie, as my previous NoS, Block, Leap guy diead last game(in which he would have earned a skill). A nice thing about keeping 10 MA and not taking sprint is that I can still score in one turn on the off chance I get a quick snap, without having the 1-turner reputation.
