New Norse Team
Hi, I would like a few comments on my norse team I will be taking for a local Tournament.
6 linenman
1 passer
1 catcher
2 blitzers
1 ogre
8 fan factor
3 rerolls
It seems to be a fairly good setup. I played a couple pratice games with them and they seem to work out fairly well, but input always welcome

Apothecary or 12th player
How about a lower fan factor and a 12th player or an apothecary?

norse
Is it common for a norse team to take 12 people at the start? i usually play elf teams where taking 12 players at the start is not afforadable

ogre
Any reason you dont like the ogre? it seems nice to have some sense of strenght on the line at the start.
I notice some other topics people suggest not taking big guys at start, but ogres seem the least annoying with only a semi bad trait.
so far I have playtested a few more games and it seems to work for me, but I still like input and I am thankful for what I have gotten so far, but i haven't had many others post and I went through the history a few months and not much discusion on norse teams to reference either..
thanks

I would drop the thrower....
And with Av 7 players get a Apo!!...
So I would sugest something more like this:
Ogre (since you like... and surely he can help in LOS!!)
2 Blitzers
1 Catcher
6 Linemen
1 Apo
2 RRs
6 FFs
Perhaps even changing the catcher for a Line and 2FFs... as these can help you buying more catchers later...
Or for something more crazy: drop the catcher, get 3 FFs and keep 40k to freeboot a catcher in 1st game...
Of course the problem is the catcher (if he survives) will probably be the scorer, wich means lost SPPs... but I guess you will feel better than your oponent when he scores!!
just a crazy ideia...

Re: ogre
It's not so much I don't like the Orge (though I went for a mino), it just that Norse can be fragile so 12 players is nice, and your catcher will be a target, even with ST3 and Block, and if he's taken out you start having to burn RR for catches, which you will need for the envitable double skulls Norse Blitzers always roll.carnage4u wrote:Any reason you dont like the ogre?

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

But i agree with Darkson on not buying an ogre in your start roster.
Even with block they are very fragile, and casualities could be high if you play against another hard hitting team like dwarf, orcs etc.

Actually the opponent goes after your blitzers more often than your catchers. And you may burn some RR on catching, but i consider it a good use of RR for a norse team (you almost never use RR on blocks, so why not use them to catch.)It's not so much I don't like the Ogre (though I went for a mino), it just that Norse can be fragile so 12 players is nice, and your catcher will be a target, even with ST3 and Block, and if he's taken out you start having to burn RR for catches, which you will need for the envitable double skulls Norse Blitzers always roll.

Mino
I also went for the mino. We had to clarify the Wild Animal rule and agreed that once on the ground, the mino can stay put. Other than that, place five players around a downed Mino, isolate him and you can watch the turn counter tick down.
Pretty low AV too, but he seemed more fun than the Ogre ...

well, if your oppo is going to place 5 players around the mino beat the crap out of the rest of his team and score.

Mino
Yeah, kinda (I should mention, it was my first match played with Norse), but: situation was this. Mino went after one player, knocked him down. The rest moved into position to score, with another few players left on the floor. Two moves left. Now the op moved the remaining players around the mino and he failed to roll two favorable dice on both remaining turns.

If you are using LRB rules surely he can't do that? Wild Animal only forces you to block if your wild animal is 'standing' next to an opponent at any time. Can't you just deign not to stand up the mino, forgo his movement so he doesn't ever 'stand' near them and then rush in enforcer linemen to break up their assists? Missing one minotaur turn isn't as bad as having a turnover forced on you.
